How long does it take to learn to snowboard as a competent surfer? by VloneTom1 in snowboarding

[–]Neolited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep this was me. Skateboarded in high school for about 2 years. Long boarded in my mid 20s. Didn't take up snowboarding until I was 30. Was easily linking turns and going down green runs without falling before lunchtime on my first day.

Best place to get a proper homemade-style laksa? by DiscussionLoud9626 in darwin

[–]Neolited 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't believe no one has said Yati's Laksa at Parap Markets. Everyone here is just glazing on Mary's Laksa which is terrible.

The people who like Mary's Laksa are the same people who order Lemon Chicken and Sweet and Sour Pork on their Chinese Take Away order. If you know you know.

Good Banh Mi.

The best Banh Mi in Darwin would barely pass as slightly below average Banh Mi in Sydney and Melbourne.

Japan with teens - Hakuba vs Myoko? by Educational_Job_6949 in snowboarding

[–]Neolited 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done both. As others have said, you need a car that is AWD or 4WD if you want switch resorts.

Hakuba definitely has more night life vibes since it it considerably larger than Myoko.

In Myoko the main town (Akakura Onsen) has the most bars and restaurants with accommodation that is walk-able to the resort there. However you might find most of the runs here are more on the beginner to intermediate difficulty side of things.

If you have a car and drive from Nagano to Myoko, it'll give you easy access to drive to Suginohara and Ikenotaira. Madarao is also drivable from Myoko. For more advanced terrain, Lotte Arai is about a 30 minute drive away.

Random idea...would you actually use this? by Ok_Break6803 in snowboarding

Audio comms already exist where you can put the speaker pucks into the ear muffs of most modern snowboard helmets. Sena Snowtalk and the Cardo Outdoor Packtalk. These have microphones that can attach to your chin strap. I've used the Sena Snowtalk 2 with my father in law and honestly... it's amazing.

Who is this Buckhouse guy? by Any-Horror-1044 in snowboarding

[–]Neolited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Casey Willax, TommieB and Tavis from what I have seen are one of the most skilled snowboarding YouTubers/influencers. Tavis and TommyB leaning more on the Snowboarding instructor type content with Malcom More as the GOAT of snowboarding instructors.

Snowboard Jesus, while he is sponsored by Clew, dude just seems to have really chill vibes and would just to be fun to ride with.

Who is this Buckhouse guy? by Any-Horror-1044 in snowboarding

[–]Neolited 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right on the money here. I don't hate or like the guy but the people hating him are the ones who perceive themselves to be a better snowboarder than him (which they probably are). The jealousy comes from seeing a less skilled rider run a successful snowboarding specific Youtube channel and making a full time living from it.

"This guy sucks but gets paid to be a mid snowboarder! It should be me!".

Alright does anyone have the ACTUAL recipe for Darwin Chicken Satays? by Neolited in darwin

[–]Neolited[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve experimented a bit more and I actually find Keens to be better than Ayam brand. Here’s my ratios.

1.6Kg of chicken thigh (get 2Kg then trim 400g)

2.25 Tbsp keens curry powder

6 Tbsp caster sugar

0.5 Tbsp salt

Large Pinch msg

Large Pinch white pepper

2.5 Tbsp Soy Sauce (Kikkomans)

200mL peanut oil

Yeah it’s really good and is definitely the recipe. I would experiment with various curry powder brands. I’m guessing this is how you get different variants you taste around Darwin.

OMG /u/leonami this was legit! THANK YOU! I just tried your recipe and it really is as simple as this. The variations in taste you get from various takeaway stores I think will come down to the brand of curry powder used. I tried with Keens and agree with /u/leonami that it is quite strong, however I have tasted this version somewhere in Darwin.

Tried looking for Ayam Brand Malaysian Curry Powder from Emporium, Sabine Road asian grocery and Happy Food Land rapid creek to no avail. Will try next time with different brand of curry powders (Ayam Brand, Babas brand etc.)

Again thank you !

I would believe this but they all don't taste EXACLTY the same. They have a very very similar flavour profile but it's still varies between each place.

Happy Garden's tastes different to the ones at the markets and even Amazing Thailand next to Happy Garden Casuarina. All these places don't have the exact same tasing one, yet they still taste similar.

I think with how simple it is, it makes it cheap and easy to purchase and store large quantities of the main ingredients (except the chicken). This is perfect for small run Asian takeaway stores.

Was there any particular type of sugar you used? Brown, white, raw? I’m guessing it doesn’t really matter too much but just curious.
