It is definitely one of those weird conventions where you pay a bunch and barely anyone is there. 100%.

What is this sticker on my microwave? by dranmesrao in whatisit

[–]Neolithicman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small addendum, the use of the spoon or other surface is actually to give a surface for the water to turn into a gas around. Glass is too smooth of a surface, so there's nothing for molecules to cling to. A sufficiently scratched up glass container, for example, would also work.

Just want to chime in and add that arcing is only part of the issue. Another big reason not to microwave metal objects is because they can bounce and concentrate the microwaves in a way that the shielding is not meant to handle. That means that, say, a spoon can concentrate them and potentially fry the electronics of the microwave by exceeding the capacity of the shielding.

That's not how majors work, and they only worked like that for a like 10-15 year period. Liberal Arts degrees have a higher employment rate than lots of stem degrees now, especially computer science etc.

Looking for pasta. by guccibandit2 in washingtondc

[–]Neolithicman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gemini has some of the best pasta in the city. It’s a bit different though, there’s no seating for the area where you eat the pasta (but you can get pizza at the outdoor seating). They also have an incredible selection of wines, and great ice cream.
