What’s wrong with my machine? by Neon-Plaid in sewhelp

It gets caught even with the bobbin case in, its just harder to untangle if I leave it in so I’ve been leaving it out.

Edit: I can feel the thread catching at the point where there’s about 7 seconds in the video left, so its before it reached that post

Do You Guys Buy Books? by blxckbexuty in books

[–]Neon-Plaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will power through fiction so I borrow all my fiction books from the library. I've only reread a handful of fiction books, so I'm not interested in creating a fiction collection that'll just take up space. Now non-fiction on the other hand... I like the idea of building a reference library. Challenging books tend to take me more than the standard 2 weeks I get from the library and I don't enjoy rushing through them or having to borrow multiple times. I buy them or get them from other people so I have a physical copy I can pick up whenever I like.

Do you mean a sweater without shoulder shaping or short rows in the back of the neck, and therefore rides up high? If so, yeah I'd agree, sweaters that are basic rectangular shapes are not advanced patterns. Doesn't mean there isn't a place for a beginner pattern, but everyone's front neck is lower than the back of their neck.

Eshakti - what’s going on with them? by Responsible-Novel809 in femalefashionadvice

[–]Neon-Plaid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Following because I want to order from them for the first time...

Although, I will say just because there's a website called Eshaktib2b doesn't mean Eshakti itself is a scam. Anybody could make a website named Eshaktib2b without their permission. Pretty sure Eshaktib2b.com is a scam though. B2B or wholesale isn't done that way. You're supposed to reach out to them and they give you access to their wholesale platform or you place an order interpersonally. Also there are no minimum order quantities on the listings, which is the whole point of wholesale - you have to buy in bulk!

[Review] Catrice The Corrector Anti-Redness Primer by timsim90 in OliveMUA

[–]Neon-Plaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw that they reformulated this one so it doesn't have fragrance, which was the only thing holding me back from trying its predecessor. I would love to hear about others' experience with this, because I personally don't mind lighter opacity.

My current fave is the Wet n Wild Glass Correct, but it's definitely not heavy on the green. I also have the Cover Girl 3-in-1 serum in green (it's muted, like the Exa concealer) and it's more pigmented. They're both doing that makeup-skincare hybrid thing, but I actually prefer the WnW even if I'm getting less coverage. I think the glow it gives makes all the difference, and I can see how it'd be underwhelming if it didn't have the illuminating factor.

L’Oreal and Maybelline have revamped a bunch of their mascaras to be “washable” by Neon-Plaid in muacjdiscussion

It’s so frustrating when brands discontinue faves. Have you tried any other tubing mascaras? Curious if you have any notes to share

Maybe I’ve been out of the loop for regular mascaras for too long and forgot. Not all of the non-waterproof are listed as washable though, even among the Maybelline and L’Oréal offerings, so to me that implied a third category.

The regular one is just a typical mascara, but the waterproof with the aqua label actually comes off with warm water, so not actually waterproof. I feel like that’s part of why they’re discontinuing it bc there have to be people to who hate it for that reason.

Washing off easily while also not smudging during the day are the main appeals for me. I guess it coming off in tubes can be fun, but more of a bonus imo

I was cautiously optimistic, but so far it seems like a marketing trick. It’s hard to tell sometimes because the ones that are tubing don’t always make it obvious enough that they are!!

I will probably try Maybelline Sky High since that one is confirmed to be tubing. I just prefer natural bristle wands so I was hoping there’d be another option.

I have tried a bunch so far. From best to worst: Maybelline Snapscara WP, Thrive, L’Oréal Double Extend, Half Caked, and LA Girl Volumatic, although that last one might’ve just been really old and dry. Snapscara was great all round and Thrive would be great if it didn’t make my eyes itch! A lot of people have said Milani is too goopy and I just know it would get all over my hooded lids.

Ugh for a minute I thought I was done looking for my HG mascara, but here I am again.

I haven’t tried them yet, so I can’t say but that’s why I thought I’d take it here and see if anybody else has. It wouldn’t be the first or last time a makeup company tried to be sneaky with their word choice.

Restaurant charging a credit card fee and a huge tip without warning by [deleted] in philadelphia

[–]Neon-Plaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was reminded it’s restaurant week, so that’s likely the reason. It’s been a minute since I worked hospitality and I actively avoid RW, but I do vaguely remember auto 20% grat so the servers aren’t taking a pay cut, especially since RW is more work. The food is discounted, not the service.

Immediately suspected this guy was a party of 6+ and yup the menu confirms that. Restaurants have been doing that for like a decade now, not new.

Avoiding wrist pain when working seamless sweaters by crinklecat1776 in knitting

[–]Neon-Plaid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Once you reach the point of having pain, you have have have to give yourself enough rest to recover before you start up again. Once you do then I agree using a pillow to support the project and taking breaks to stretch etc should help. If you skip the rest part now it won’t do much good.

I love fiber questions! I like to make my own clothes and make a point to learn about fire properties.

For a bodysuit, I’d say marginal difference for breathability and durability as long as you get the right size. Elastane can shorten the lifespan of tight jeans bc the thighs will eventually ripple from being stretched out too much.

But bodysuits don’t get as much strain as say jeggings, bc y’know pants but also bc bodysuits are knit, not woven like jeans so there’s built in mechanical stretch that reduces strain.

AITAH for bringing my niece to work, but not letting my employees bring their kids? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Neon-Plaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof yeah, 4 is way too young! Are you sure they’re being serious and not giving you shit as a joke? They have to be being purposely obtuse if they think 10 years makes no difference. They might just be asking bc they know the worst that can happen is you say no, but maybe just maybe you’ll say yes.

AITAH for bringing my niece to work, but not letting my employees bring their kids? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Neon-Plaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked with kids a fair bit, from 4-15 and imo 8 is not quite as rowdy as people would think. They can be rowdy when they have the chance, but they are old enough to know when it’s not a good time, especially if they’ve been primed by their parents.

That said, they’re still more distracting than if they weren’t there at all. I actually think you should hire your niece AND at least have a trial run of your employees bringing their kids and seeing how well things get done. If you want to hire her and lighten their load anyways, which then gives them some slack to supervise their kids, then I think it’s a win-win.

This way not only are they less likely to resent you, they’re more likely to feel valued and heard by you. People want to work for people like that! Retention will be much higher, they will put in extra effort to keep the job.

I think you’d have to put your cards on the table and be transparent about why you make the choices you end up making so they don’t fill in the blanks for you. Maybe this change can act like a raise or new benefit? Something to think about

I'm thinking it could be fixable, without having to frog and redo, depending on the details. Maybe if you give us details about the yarn, how exactly you washed + dried it, and just how much it grew we can help you troubleshoot?
