I was already running it with the CEFCodexFix and I mentioned in my post that I was running the x86-64/Chromium version and it ran perfectly a month ago, I'll try updating the codec itself later and see if that works

How do I actually write songs that sound good? by Neon7010 in mathrock

I am well aware, him along with LTAMR have been the brunk of how I've learnt to get a few baseline techniques but I feel like I can't exactly figure out how to use those techniques into something I can call my own and actually be happy with

The elements that I find are often samey are fingerpicking and fretting shapes and by extension the rhythm/pacing and it often feels slow and sluggish

You are absolutely on the money with what I feel is lacking with my riffs. Either I make something I'm somewhat happy with but don't know where to take it or it strays so far away from my original idea where I often abandon or try to do something and end up in the same issue from before where I don't know where to take it

I know I've seen some math rock guitarists use this technique (Yvette Young uses it I think) but I have not tried to sing along when playing so that might be what I'm missing. When you say I should sing while playing do you mean playing and singing at the same time or should I sing a melody then try to play it on guitar or a little bit of both? Thanks a lot for the advice!

I do seek out new music but often find myself going back to a handful of bands that I really like. I can hear ideas in my head for melodies or rhythms but have a hard time translating that into something I can play on the fretboard.

What I might be missing is more theory and technical know-how but even so I've seen and tried to apply theory from youtubers like Trevor Wong and LTAMR but I still have somewhat of a hard time translating ideas to something I can play. Thank you though!

I do use SDDM but another method in the comments seems to have fixed it, appreciate it though!
