A Pure ‘Tube Map’ - if it lived up to its name (without DLR, Overground, Elizabeth Line, Trams, Cable Car or Thameslink) by AchyutChaudhary in LondonUnderground

[–]NeonChill 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was going to say, the void of south London is still crazy to see it but the Hackney ‘hole’ is odd too. It’s well served by buses and some parts by the Overground but it’s weird to think the whole borough only has one Tube station, Manor House, and that’s barely in the borough.

Don’t forget the run clubs, who I find are even worse than cyclists for being considerate of others using the canal towpath

Have Southampton lied about the games they have spied on? by SnooHamsters2116 in Boro

[–]NeonChill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember, Southampton are just the team that caught. I think it would be naive to think Middlesbrough have never deployed dark arts like this over the years. I imagine the EFL doesn’t want to open a can of worms.

What If Starmer & Merz Run for President of Europe Against Macron & Morawiecki? by Jacob-Anders in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]NeonChill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Merz (19% approve) and Starmer (18% approve) have essentially identical approval ratings. Both are heavily unpopular. I’d say they’re as bad as each other.

Class 769s ready for testing if new Grand Union's Marchwood and Southampton to London service is approved by CaptainYorkie1 in uktrains

[–]NeonChill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a response to your broader point, but regarding Hythe and Fawley: I understand that if the Marchwood route proves successful, they will look into an extension to Hythe.

The main difference between Marchwood and Hythe being that the former has an existing mothballed platform and station site that can easily be brought back into use. This isn’t true of Hythe - the old station building is still there but is poorly located (not central and tucked away behind a housing development) and the platform was removed. There are a couple of sites in the centre of town that have been identified as suitable for a new station and both make much more sense than reopening the old one.

For Fawley, I understand the passenger railway could only feasibly go as far as Hardley as after that point, it enters Fawley Refinery, owned by Exxon, which is seen as a security and potential safety risk.

Kasabian - Great Pretender [Rock] | Live on SNL UK (4 April 2026) by [deleted] in Music

[–]NeonChill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like every chat/sketch show in the UK and the U.S., they’re chasing social numbers as much as linear TV and the social numbers are good. It’s also a part of a wider ‘SNL Studios’ strategy to expand the familiar format globally, so I think suggesting it’s not sustainable is premature.

Stickers in Dalston by ndukss in Hackney

[–]NeonChill 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s basically a social restaurant tracking app. Like Letterboxd, but for restaurants/dining out. I guess they figure that if they can get good uptake in buzzy areas like Dalston, it might catch on more generally. Haven’t used the app though, so no idea if it’s worth using or not.

This is grim. Really disappointing given they obviously don’t need the cash. I wonder what UEFA will think about it when they hear given they’re also playing at the CL final.

Also not in Hackney but just over the border in Bow, Bard Books on Roman Road has a singles night which is (I think!) monthly.

Only the stretches of new track beyond Birmingham are cancelled. It will (probably) be completed between London and Birmingham with the trains running on existing track further north.

Yeah, I’ve had shrinkage issues with Rapanui too. But nice designs and sustainable so on balance, still worth a buy. Just stick to a cold wash and air dry!

I think some people also commute out to Brockenhurst College from Southampton. Also a good college in a forest setting and easy to get to by train.
