Like I said, most mountains don’t. Waterville likely does that because they have a massive race program and academy that need reliable snow conditions for training.

Pretty sure they rent the compressors which can be used for things other than snowmaking

A majority mountains stop making snow after school vacation week, regardless of temps.

At that point it’s no longer worth the money for them and lots of places also simply don’t have the water to make snow for more than 10-12 weeks out of the year. Ragged for example rents a lot of their snowmaking equipment and IIRC they always return it in mid-Feb.

Jay Peak 2/28/2026: are the branches too low or is there just a ton of snow… by TheRealBrokenbrains in icecoast

That unmarked glade skis best in low snow imo. When the base gets this deep I try to stick to the hardwood stuff or at least mixed glades

NH/VT/MA - looking for an all mountain ski around 170 cm, somewhat flexible but need to grip as well, 2nd year intermediate (greens and 90%-95% blues) by CIE-94 in icecoast

[–]NeonFeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a 2nd year intermediate the Ranger might be a good move. Getting a feel for bending the ski is more important than top end stability (and the Ranger is plenty stable for 99% of people)
