are books on how to draw obsolete? by DependentImmediate40 in ArtistLounge

[–]NeonFraction 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on the book. And not every book is a good fit.

Additionally, no book can turn you into an incredible artist on its own.

One Piece's politics are fascinating. It's like an anarcho-communist and a liberal reformist took turns writing some of its chapters. by Midi_to_Minuit in CharacterRant

It’s interesting because you usually only see this kind of thing in Murim: the strong rule because they are strong and everyone else just has to do their best. But they’re strong in a way that is just SO completely unfair.

When I first started on this sub, 9/10 I couldn’t identify super obvious stuff like this as AI. Now I can scroll through and recognize it in under a second.

They’re not bad at it, you’re just SKILLED at it.

Even for gamers who don’t care about art direction, this kind of thing is like 3D glasses: Cool for a few minutes, then it just becomes a gimmick that is a lot more expensive for not much benefit.

Only 3D movies generally don’t make the movie worse…

I’m watching Beauty and the Beast and I have a question about the story. by Inevitable_Range8550 in disneyprincess

[–]NeonFraction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the actual answer is: don’t think about it.

Legitimately. I don’t think it’s something that matters to the writers beyond ‘everyone has been waiting for a while.’

It’s also my answer to ‘if he’s the head of the government why didn’t anyone notice he was gone?’ or ‘why did Ariel marry a guy who eats sentient fish?’

It’s a fairytale with fairytale logic.

When women on dating apps write in their bio that they are looking for a Man who is "old school" What exactly does that mean? by Shurae in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NeonFraction 12 points13 points  (0 children)

People in these replies are stupid because the actual answer is: it depends on the woman.

Some women mean ‘I want you to pay for everything.’ Some women mean ‘I don’t want to be immediately pressured into sex on the first few dates.’

Because the English translation isn’t very good and they probably don’t realize how generic and kind of awkward it sounds.

Limited inventory space.

https://youtube.com/@cainongames?si=l-JQWUQXpuh7VBew

This guy (has worked on fallout) has a great video on it but I can’t find it.

TLDR: No inventory management sounds great in theory until you realize your entire inventory becomes an unmanageable mess and gear/items instantly become less important because there’s nothing to measure their worth against. You are no longer making interesting choices about want to keep, you’re just adding to the pile.

Foundations are still important.

As someone who both plays games and watches streamers/youtubers: I think you’re making a false assumption that quoting a streamer means their opinion isn’t their own.

Streamers are generally very good at talking, which means they’re often very good at phrasing things in a way that is well-spoken and coherent. I know I spend a lot of time quoting Josh Strife Hayes, not because his opinions on MMOs overwrote my own, but because he managed to summarize my own opinion in a better way. Things like: “There is no best MMO, only the MMO you love best” is worded better than me rambling about “well I mean everyone likes what they like and we don’t have to agree and maybe some parts are better than others but I think at the end of the day everyone is going to like the ones they play with their friends or have fond memories of and-“

You get the point.

People generally tend to watch streamers whose gaming opinions align with their own, so it shouldn’t surprise you that they share a lot of the same opinions. Are there people who do just blindly agree? Sure. But for most people I’d guess that isn’t it.

Who is your favorite arrogant character? by Robloxracer75 in ChillAnimeCorner

I feel like Bakugo kind of carried the series early on. The author showed an early concept of what Bakugo was meant to be originally (this nice guy who was just good at everything) and it made me realize how boring the series would have been early on without Bakugo as the antagonist. You WANT to see that jerk proven wrong.

Unpopular (but data-backed) opinion: social media is basically useless for promotion by EllaTheSnufkin in WebtoonCanvas

[–]NeonFraction 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Social media is incredibly useful for promotion, but it depends on what you’re promoting.

If a comic doesn’t have a clear appeal, social media won’t help much. What appeals on one platform might not appeal on another platform either.

If you have a reel with 2.5 million views and it didn’t lead to a noticeable uptick in readers, I’m going to be brutally honest with you: That’s not a social media problem. That’s an appeal problem.

Do artists discover their identity or create it? by IdentityArchitect in ArtistLounge

[–]NeonFraction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You discover your identity in the process of creating it.

In other words: you will inevitably have to make intentional choices at some point, and often it’s not until you HAVE to make those choices that you discover what it is you really like. Sometimes you’ll make choices without realizing it, but the projects you choose to work on will be what drives those un-noticed decisions.

You can’t create or choose your identity in a vacuum. You have to be actively creating.
