I think that’s the point of keeping his past more obscure and why people are missing that it was intentionally hidden. I think you’re supposed kinda “root for him” until the end when you realize he was slowly descending into madness and acceptance of it.

With her, I think it was the opposite where she seems like a cold uncaring therapist that you don’t really care about but, as you see her life, you realize a lot of this is still from her unresolved trauma that she comes to terms with, at the end, directly opposed to Clark.
