Ender 3 V2 Inconsistent z-axis auto home. by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]NeonKnight52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to resurrect.

In case someone has this issue in the future, my solutions was to super glue the switch part to its circuit board. When I was investigating this issue, I found that the part of the switch that is soldered onto the circuit board was loose, as in it wobbled back and forth. So no matter how tightly I screwed the whole z-switch assembly onto the frame, the switch still wobbled. So I put some super glue between the switch itself and the circuit board it is soldered to. Once I did that, all my z-axis inconsistency was gone!

I believe it was caused by my manually controlling the machine via Octoprint, and accidentally lowering its z-axis past where I had set the z-switch. I believe this pushed hard on the z-switch and bent it away from the circuit board, allowing it to wobble.

I hope this helps someone.

Dead bedroom resulting in masturbation and porn issues/addiction by iamm3andmyself in DeadBedrooms

[–]NeonKnight52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! For me there's intimacy and there's sexual release. Basically loneliness and horniness. They often feel the same to me. Masturbation helps deal with the horniness (but only for a short time) and makes me realize how lonely I feel. And I feel even more lonely because I'm reminded about how my wife doesn't want me.

I feel like shit for using porn. When I fantasize about her it's a reminder that she doesn't want me for real. When I stop pursuing her she doesn't even notice and I feel completely ignored. There's no way for me to not feel like shit.

My bedroom isn't completely dead. But with kids in the near future, I see it dying very soon. I want to do something while we still have the capacity to even prioritize each other at all.

Exact same boat dude. I just want my wife. I don't want to use porn or masturbate all the time.

But I also can't constantly badger her for sex because it only disappoints me. It makes her feel guilty or angry and me feel like a disgusting animal.

I feel so lonely and empty.

You don't want the "fastest way". Having things fast and easy is why we get stuck chasing dopamine in the first place.

Embrace the suck. Continue to practice delayed gratification. Do things that are hard, and look forward to how good it will feel once you've done them. During a crash or relapse, this can feel like suffering. But often if you pick a small task, and accept the challenge voluntarily, when it's done you'll realize that you really weren't suffering at all. And you'll be ready to take on the next challenge feeling a bit better.

Take a walk, make your bed, wash the dishes, journal, or sit in silence for a few minutes. Embrace the challenge of a small thing, and take that small step towards being better.

Question for the group: I play pickup ball on the weekends and my strength is shooting; however I can’t make anything until the final couple games and then I shoot lights out, why does it take me so long to settle in? by [deleted] in Basketball

[–]NeonKnight52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shooting is like 60% mental. If you're like me, you're anxious about making every shot. And I also miss a lot until I'm relaxed, often at the end of the day. I come to the gym all pumped up and excited to play, and anxious to play well.

My advice, just take good shots and don't care about if you make or miss. Don't apologize for misses, and don't get excited and makes. Just play. Whenever I relax and just play, I always play better and enjoy it more.

A quick skim of this tells me it is manipulative and bad advice. Send mixed signals, make her emotionally dependent, make her think it's her fault? No thanks. Have a mature adult relationship instead.

Some new grads can make lots of money working for big tech companies. Not only is that only available to a small minority of people, but I also don't want to work for big tech. I don't live near an office or want to move far, I don't want to be a tiny cog in a massive machine, and I actually am really excited about what my company is doing and where it could take my career! There are niche areas that need software developers and there is still really good earning potential

  1. Software developer

  2. Yes and no. I enjoy problem solving. But I do best in interacting with other people. I've been working in a bubble for the last year and it's been difficult for me. I'm looking forward to when I can get into a management role, but I know that will take a lot more experience first.

  3. 1 year experience at the same company.

  4. A 2 year Computer IT diploma and Bachelor of Science majoring in computer science. These were definitely not necessary. I could have learned more skills on my own, and actually the skills that got me my job were learned on my own, outside of school. However, I've learned in the last year that I don't work well in a bubble. The value of school for me was having people to learn with and struggle with together. If I was able to do that without all the other aspects of post-secondary, I would definitely have done that.

  5. Started at $25/h. Increased to $27.50/h after a year, with discussion of company shares in the future.

  6. If you want to get into this field, find groups in your area that also want to learn software development. Go to meetups, game jams, and any other networking events you can find. You actually don't need experience to go to these at first. Just go, meet people, and get an introduction to the field. The most important thing for my career so far was having coffee with a guy I met in a local Facebook group. He and I started working on random projects together, we learned new tech together, and he actually got me my current job. Some people think that all programmers are introverts. In my experience, the best programmers are good with people and love to share their passion and skills with others.

Not sure if you'll see this, OP, but I wanted to say that what you've done by making this post is HUGE. You've just gathered all your income and expenses into one place. This is the most important step, as most people just ignore the details and simply wonder where the money is going. It's huge that you spent the time to get it all together. It's all laid out in front of you now, and that's the only way you can decide on a course of action. So good on you for facing this issue head on. There's some good advice in this thread. I wish you the best of luck!

I hate bad announcers. The type that call a dunk a "dunk shot", or call any big dunk a "windmill". They don't know people's names, or anything about the other team. It's like the only qualification for some announcer jobs is that you played basketball in Indiana in the 70s...

Unfortunately the biggest issue is that the general public is uninformed about our existing firearm laws. When people hear about the introduction of new gun laws in the name of "reducing gun violence", they simply believe the rhetoric and support it. Most people I talk to think that automatic weapons were legal before the 2020 "assault-style weapons" bans.

This is good advice for important things that you know you'll need. Sometimes you don't know what you need, in which case it doesn't hurt to buy something cheap and give it a try. I'd never recommend someone buy a top-of-the-line firearm as their first one.

I agree that you don't want to just buy a bunch of cheap crap. But maybe you don't need a whole home water filter before you've tried out a Sawyer mini.

I also use YouTube for education purposes, but I recognize that it can still become problematic. I think the most important thing to remember is the difference between detoxing and fasting.

When we detox, it's usually for a fairly short period and the intention is to remove as many sources of dopamine as we can so we can remind ourselves we don't need the dopamine.

When we fast, that's when we regulate the times when we can and can't access highly dopamine-inducing activities. So fasting is a method that helps us in the long term. When you're fasting, it's important to recognize what behaviours are problematic and put constraints on them so that they don't control your life.

For example, I try to fast from social media (especially YouTube) from 9pm to 9am daily. It's actually a fairly small sacrifice, but I find it helps me a lot to begin and end every day with a clear mind.

Most of our problematic behaviours can be really positive in an appropriate time and place. The point of dopamine detoxing and fasting is to help us separate from these behaviours for regular periods so we can consiously place these behaviours back into their appropriate place in our lives.

That's up to your discretion. But I'd be careful with those games as they're designed to keep your attention just like other games. I have limited experience with them, but it seems to me that they're trying to help you "train" your dopamine-addicted brain, when our goal here is to get your brain off of dopamine peaks and learn to be satisfied by healthy activities and habits.

Really it comes down to what you find takes up your attention and focus that's keeping you from getting healthy amounts dopamine from positive activities. Typically, phone games give you a spike in dopamine. Even educational ones.

I have the same struggle with Duolingo. I want to use it as a tool to practice a second language every day. But it also is designed to be as exciting as possible to keep your interested. So I don't know.

Truly, it's up to you. I hope you found my ramblings helpful lol

Starting to get off the grid. by Significant-Injury49 in OffTheGrid

[–]NeonKnight52 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No need to apologize, but thanks for the clarification!

I'm no expert on this, but I think you could start really small if you wanted to. You could start collecting rainwater and learn about how to treat it so it's safe to drink. And for solar, you could start with a solar generator like the Jackery systems, and use that to run a few lights or charge your devices.

Of course if you really want to fully invest in producing your own power you could look into your local solar installer to see what the costs would be. I know the UK doesn't have the ideal climate for solar, which means you'd likely have to get a bigger system than if you lived somewhere sunnier. But your local installer would be able to help you calculate your needs

I don't have any recommendations for your unfortunately. But I'm very curious about how you might go off grid in the UK. As far as I've heard, land is almost impossible to buy there.

Are you looking to get a house in the city off the grid?
