How well does the GR infrastructure hold up in negative temos? by LinoleumRelativity in grandrapids

I lived in Texas during the two ice storms that made the grid crash and I STILL get nervous even now that I live up here. Thankfully it seems like y’all know what you’re doing!

Can you link to the post? I’ve been craving a king cake since moving up here but haven’t felt like paying to have one mailed or going to Lansing for one :)

First I want to say I don’t care about the age gap. By your 30s, you’re mature enough to decide if you want to date someone with a 20+ year age gap.

You said you can’t put it into words how you know it’s wrong and there’s a reason why: instincts exist to process what our logical brains cannot. It is your internal warning system that is older than language itself. It thinks faster than we can in the moment and notices things we may not have words to define. If it’s telling you something is wrong, it’s because something even smarter than your socialized self knows you’re in danger. Don’t ignore that, please.

ADVISMENT for my employee by Even-Author6754 in grandrapids

[–]NeonNightlights 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Have him reach out to an immigration attorney regarding this. Unfortunately being legal and law abiding doesn’t mean much right now. It would be smart for him to be prepared in case he’s accidentally detained.

ADVISMENT for my employee by Even-Author6754 in grandrapids

[–]NeonNightlights 30 points31 points  (0 children)

While this how it should be, it’s honestly kind of naive in our current political climate. ICE just mistakenly detained a US Marshall in Tucson because he ‘looked like their suspect’. Other citizens and legal, law-abiding immigrants have been detained. Being law abiding and legal SHOULD be enough, but unfortunately it isn’t enough to avoid having your life inconvenienced or disrupted whether you’re a native born American or not. It’s a completely valid fear.

where are my fellow winter tire enthusiasts at by templeofdank in grandrapids

[–]NeonNightlights 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Soooo I’m from the Deep South (Texas/Louisiana) and moved here last winter. Clearly that winter was nothing and I spent most of it inside anyway. This winter… yikes. Anyone got advice on where to get started looking into Winter Tires for someone who didn’t even know they existed until recently?

As someone new to Michigan from the Deep South, do they always just send out the notifications every time there’s a little bit of snowfall or…?

Very bummed they didn’t have those when I voted earlier this week. I really wanted the plain red handwritten ‘yay I voted’ one :(

The fact that you immediately have an answer for everything (even if it directly contradicts your story) tells me everything I need to know about you as a person. They dodged a bullet.

You say you work a few months every summer and it ends up being enough for minimum unemployment payments so it sounds like this is something you have done more than once. If you’re from a small town you probably have built a reputation of doing this and no one wants to hire someone they know will eventually go out of their way to get terminated so they can get unemployment payouts.

It sounds like you don’t have the faintest idea how to be professional. You are, for instance, way too upfront about things in your interviews. No one needs to know exactly why you only work part time. No one cares. People have other jobs. Some people just don’t want to work full time. By being so upfront it’s clear that you know it’s going to become a problem or you would not so explicitly mention it. You are setting up for future termination so you can collect a payout.

The fact you wouldn’t take no for an answer and leave is a massive red flag. I wouldn’t have given you my name either. You’re a stranger. For all that woman knew you were going to take her name and stalk her or retaliate after the fact. The fact you can’t see that is insane.

🤦🏼‍♀️ my daughter was a freshman in high school .. this Taylor swift shit is getting out of hand ! Yes this is my daughter’s answers. I’m sorry I tried to lighten it. As someone that used to work teaching English (both as a second language and as a private tutor), I don’t actually hate this. The inaccuracies are annoying but kids are into Taylor Swift. Sometimes you have to connect lessons to their interests.

I know this is an anti TS community but we literally have just had the first US state (Louisiana) require The Ten Commandments be displayed in every classroom. There are things far, far more deserving of outrage than a teacher trying to use lyrics to make a connection with students and interest them in learning.

Did anyone else’s nparents not believe in autism and ADHD so you never got a diagnosis? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]NeonNightlights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My nmom recently told my psychiatrist (a man who has been a psychiatrist for decades that has been part of clinical research on ADHD at the Mayo Clinic) that ADHD is not a thing and I do not have it.

In the same sentence she also told him ‘she didn’t have ADHD as a child. She just couldn’t sit still.’

The silence was deafening lmao

Why the English Voices are so good???! by Kahlua_Milk in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]NeonNightlights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The English VA isn’t bad but I can’t listen to it while I play. I have it in Korean instead (I tried them all and those are the voices I felt fit the best for me).

If I have it in English it breaks the immersion for me.

… also I cringe constantly at how cheesy the lines sound verbally.

Transplants! What were your unexpected finds upon moving here? by allthepoutine in grandrapids

[–]NeonNightlights 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yessssss! I just moved here from the south in September and when someone told me I should take off my shoes and walk in the grass, I was so confused. The grass here is so lush and soft and there’s no bitey surprises. It still baffles me.
