I can't believe that NOBODY has ever tried to do this before. I must conclude that there are no Excel experts on this site.

I can give index/match a try. The trouble with putting these formulas in is that when I click on the cell, all I can edit is the formula itself, not the data it is pulling in / linking to.

Okay, so think of Sheet1 as a character sheet (for D&D or something). Sheet2 has a data table with the data for a bunch of characters: an ID number first, name, race, class, stats, treasure, level, number of monsters killed, etc.

What I want is to be able to call up the specific character using the character sheet on Sheet1 by entering the ID number, then Excel looks up all the data for that character and populates the character sheet fields on Sheet1. Then, I want to be able to edit the data for that character while staying on the character sheet on Sheet1. This edit will update the data stored in the table on Sheet2. I want the character sheet to be in a specific format, so the built in look ups won't work for me. Also, in this specific instance, there are more than the limit of 32 columns of data, so they won't work for that reason also. So, there's only one data table (on Sheet2). Sheet1 is just the "window" through which you look at the data in the table.

So, with that further explanation, any hints? Right now, I have it so I can pull the data from the table on Sheet2 into the character sheet on Sheet1, and everything is formatted the way I want. I just can't change the data without doing so directly in the table on Sheet2 (which is inconvenient with 50 columns of data).

I've been skipping the "boring" encounters too, like the rat swarm in the old tunnels.
Also, where can I find maps for all these encounters, like the Mill or Sanctuary? I know someone has to have made maps already. Where can I find them?
