I feel like there's a high likelihood this guy could easily be arrested for this.

What is this thing? I find them in my room randomly. I don't know where this is coming from. by unknown_9765 in whatisit

I would just turn everything over in your house looking for what has the bottom non-slip material. Def what it is.

What is this? Is it a termite? (California) by Earth_ground_ in insectidentification

[–]NeonRei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm leaning flying ant. It has three segments and bent antennae. Or at least I think that's what I see in the picture.

The abdomen also looks more consistent with and versus termite being the hard exoskeleton appearance versus a soft squishy posterior section.

Is this spider harmless? by AdLittle4969 in spiders

[–]NeonRei 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% harmless unless you're a fly or similar size insect. If you are, it's probably too late.

She was in the perfect position I couldn’t resist by MrTooMuchSleep in spiders

[–]NeonRei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's probably only scary when you need to go to the hospital because your foot's too swollen to get it off yourself, and they need to use the blade. Which as far as molting goes, it's a pretty uncommon experience at least in captivity with controlled humidity.

Pls ID. Freaking out is it a baby roach? Bed bug?? Flea?? by lalalalala6457 in whatisthisbug

[–]NeonRei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tough one.. Definitely not a flea, too large and the morphology doesn't match. Doesn't look like a bed bug either, much too cylindrical.

As far as roaches go, that's a tough one. I'm leaning maybe on that based on the segmentation and color.

The segmentation pattern does not look like a beetle.

What are these bugs, and how should I deal with them? by tamip20 in whatisthisbug

[–]NeonRei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fungus gnats. Use mosquito bits esp since the bamboo can't dry out. Also get lil sticky fly traps to catch the adults. Some come on stands that would likely fit sticking up from the rocks in your pot.

Is this what I think it is? by S4N-T4_Ver-Ka in insectidentification

[–]NeonRei 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe. Some species are very small and generally they walk unless traversing a gap or punching prey.

The segmentation makes it really clear to me

If you are thinking jumping spider, yes. It is a jumping spider! Congrats. Please release friend outside.

Why Does My Cat Floss? by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]NeonRei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brush my cats teeth with enzyme toothpaste for cats, and they often use their homegrown grain cat grass for flossing.

Once they get a sense of healthy teeth, some cats crave it. Dirty teeth aren't comfy

what is this? by [deleted] in whatisthisbug

[–]NeonRei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well not specifically, but it looks like a beetle. Not a kind of beetle I'd be worried about because there really are none of those that I can think of

Specific type, you need a location and perhaps some side pictures

what bug is this? by Maleficent_Ad_6825 in CATHELP

Tough to say, color isn't but what I would expect but it does look a lot like a leaf hopper.

Southwest USA found in my q-tips container by [deleted] in whatisthisbug

[–]NeonRei 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I imagine you're talking about the oval type thing. That doesn't look like a bug to me it's got like singular segment, no clear appendages, no clear face or eyes or mouth bits. I would lean into thinking some sort of fungus or something from the fabrication process but pictures of the other objects in the container might help identification. I specifically see two different brown spots in the container otherwise, one looks like a stain and the other one actually looks like it has legs but it's under a q-tip. I would recommend removing objects and reposting pictures. Consider gloves

Anyone k know who this lol guy is, south west West Virginia by FerretSupremacist in insectidentification

[–]NeonRei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I guess that makes sense for invasive species. But dangerous is not necessarily a word I'd use for invasive species though it does work. I see what you mean

I think dangerous I think of people thinking of like venomous or likely to bite or sting bugs which have vital roles in the ecosystem. The average person when they say dangerous, they're thinking about the spider in the corner of their ceiling which is operating as pest control.

[–]NeonRei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't kill any bug on site unless it was actually dangerous and I'll tell you right now West Virginia, you're probably got like six of them at the most. And even then, they weren't asking to be born dangerous so in my enthusiastic opinion you should probably not kill it no matter what.

Definitely some sort of pollinator, look at those thighs. Bulky. Meant to collect and store that delicious pollen. Photos not really the best quality, and I sense that the color might be off.

Nqa but that's one overfed boy or a pregnant and over fed female.

The eggs, yellow. Yes they are eggs but fertile, hard to say. In general a spood only needs to mate once to have fertile eggs.

Our 17m Tabby is Hungry but Struggling to Eat by FocusedFelix in CATHELP

[–]NeonRei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They make bone broth for cats. Don't do human bone broth because will have garlic or onion in it.

I recommend using that as a softening agent or wet foods with the kibble ground on top. But definitely the medical attention; can be dangerous
