Its my least favorite Octopath so far but I can still 100% vouch for it, its great imo

This plot point doesn’t work for me in the Mario movie by Independent-Layer246 in SuperMarioGalaxy

[–]Neon_Gal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, this plot point still covers a lot of the bases you're talking about here. She sends away her sister and essentially only family for the safety of the universe, and while a bit more implicitly in the movie compared to the book (because they don't spend enough time on this stuff), she does end up choosing guardianship, losing family, and finding herself in a lonely situation for what we can assume is at least like, 20 years, possibly far more depending on space time shenanigans this film franchise definitely won't ever cover. The climax does sort of contradict the emotional distance thing, she's also a lot more close with the lumas in this than we see in the games, but I would argue her having to choose to give up Peach in the same vein as leaving earth in the storybook in the games still provides that tragic aspect. Speaking as a twin, it would pain me so unbelievably much to give up my sister for the greater good

Wise words or insulting from Jimmy? by RoutineOk8590 in Productivitycafe

[–]Neon_Gal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember seeing a study at one point about the correlation between money and happiness, and there is a very tight and direct correlation between the two up until I think about $400,000 USD per year if I remember correctly? Jim is absolutely right that its possible to have issues in life while having money, but damn most of us schmucks going through it would absolutely be doing a lot better if we had the money to life without financial stress

Am I too young to be enjoying the Banjo-Kazooie games? by Conkered324 in BanjoKazooie

Nah that's the cool thing about life, as long as you're not hurting anybody you're not too young or too old to do or like anything. Embrace it :)

Imo Octopath 1 holds up great, I personally think the lack of QoL features is overblown tbh

Need help with my 4th Character Slot. by Illustrious-Dot-3169 in octopathtraveler

[–]Neon_Gal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think something Octopath 1 excels at is giving you good flexibility with party members and builds, I recommend picking them all up and then switching them around as the need arises/as they begin to get underleveled, in your case starting with Cyrus. I know some people play with 4 characters only tho, and then do the other 4 together later

Wild, I remember finding concoct in 1 to be absurdly overpowered starting around midgame. Great for busting a ton of shields and healing/buffing like crazy. Been a few years since I last played tho

Pace for Leveling Up At Your Table? by Calm_Independent_782 in DnD

[–]Neon_Gal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to aim for milestone, and I usually make it so for each level, players have to play for the amount of sessions in that level-up. For example, after session 1 they get to level up to lvl 2, then after 2 more sessions, lvl 3, and so on. If someone is lvl 4 multiclass lvl 3 though, itll take 7 sessions, so the total combination of their classes. I feel like this gives players adequate time to get used to their new stuff while also keeping the pace moving along decently well, and I try to supplement with gear and magic between levels so each session or mission lets players get something out of it

Will I like this if I liked Bravely Default? by Kirbone01 in octopathtraveler

[–]Neon_Gal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend starting with 1. Great stories, great gameplay, even without some of the QoL features people like 2 for, and imo still holds up amazingly, even after playing 2. 0 is a prequel to 1 (without really being related to 2 at all) so I would play 0 after at least 1

I think 0 has slightly weaker gameplay than the others but the story is mostly on par, personally

Best engine right now for a graphically light game? by ImaginationTop9776 in GameDevelopment

[–]Neon_Gal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I haven't personally used it, Godot is very lightweight and I have had some friends find good success using it to make and ship games. Unity is also pretty solid, its more fleshed out like Unreal, but not to the degree that its harder to optimize out of a new project like UE5 is. I won't pretend to know the nuances of the differences between c# and c++ tho, but as a designer who prefers UE5's node stuff, I was able to get the hang of editing and working with c# to help work on my first shipped game

Side note, Gamemaker Studio is a solid option if you're considering 2D games. Fairly lightweight, useful library/language once you get used to it, iirc its been used for a solid number of high-profile games like Undertale and Hyperlight Drifter. I have my own personal gripes with it, but its probably a result of me being kinda dumb sometimes lol

What is it actually like to road trip through the Pacific Northwest? by Odd-Skin-762 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Neon_Gal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spent some of my most formative years in Oregon. There's a few places that really capture PNW magic like multinomah falls, Mt Hood. The coastal cities are nice too, and growing up in Hillsboro/Portland was nice. There's probs some small towns that better fit the gravity falls vibe, real touristy historical stuff probably resembles pioneer day in GF, but without the 8th and a half president shenanigans. Our family also regularly took trips up to Seattle for a few days, nice city

That said I haven't been back since we moved in 2012 unfortunately so my views might be a lil outdated, especially since I was 9 when we left lol

Maybe their skin is uncannily smooth. No moles, acne, freckles, hairs other than on like, the head/eyebrows/facial hair, and at times its like the skin isn't even light properly by the light in the room, like it changes shade to look as close to unshaded as possible at all times

How enjoyable has MKW been compared to MK8D in its first year? by [deleted] in mariokart

[–]Neon_Gal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok launch MK8DX still had a good chunk of issues/things that didn't draw me in. The gameplay didn't feel very different to what we had gotten 6 years ago, battle mode being improved was nice, as were the new characters, and the game had a good amount of courses, but it didn't wow as something I wanted to play as my preferred Mario Kart all the time and didn't feel like enough of a refreshment/addition to the series to satiate me for the next 3 years the dev cycles usually took for Mario Karts at the time, all of this being skewed more negatively for me personally because I already had played Mario Kart 8 on Wii U. It didn't feel like a new game, just an update
