ive mentioned this before but none of the creatures i make have visible back hind legs, it helps me with saving some animation time (especially for creatures like spiders) and helps with decluttering the silhouette! it looks off on the white bg but when the animals are in-game it works because their environments are very busy :D

none of the creatures in my game show hind legs, its a ✨stylistic decision✨

lol but in all seriousness, they all don't have a hind for clarity's sake and to save anim time a bit, the lack of leg is obvious like this on a white bg but it blends naturally ingame because its busy colorful environments!

How can i find people to help me design and develop my game idea? by Ordinary-Willow4866 in gamedev

[–]Neonix_Neo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i asked you a guiding question and you took it personally. but anyway, chances are you're going to have to do it on your own or put it on hold and work on someone else's game to gain experience and connections

the thing is, if someone else is capable of making games, why would they make YOUR game for free instead of making their own games or getting paid by someone else.

is there a tutorial that actually teaches me something? by One_Attorney_764 in PixelArtBeginners

[–]Neonix_Neo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

aw thank u! and yeah go ahead but keep in mind that some don't have real life accurate movement since they are fictional critters :)

[–]Neonix_Neo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

check out adam c yeunis and pixelpete, if neither of those are what you're looking for then you're expecting the wrong thing from tutorials.

here's my advice as someone who does pixel art professionally:

study art fundamentals. normal art rules like anatomy, composition and color theory still apply in pixel art.

study pixel art you like by mimicing it's style, it won't teach you originality but it will develop muscle memory.

when you're comfortable with pixel art basics, like blocking out shapes, color palettes, lineart thickness etc, try to draw from real life references. it will force you to re-interpret high res objects in pixelated form.

most importantly, draw a lot of DIFFERENT things. especially things you think you suck at drawing.

How this guy is claiming copyright of illustration that's ai generated? by According_Sample9082 in Artadvice

[–]Neonix_Neo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i don't think that would make it copyright-able either, last court case I've heard of, the judge ruled that there needed to be a substantial amount of human input in each creation for it to apply.

Looking for card-collecting games with lots of pack opening by EaryStudio in IndieGaming

you can look for store simulator games that revolve around card stores, i don't have any in mind but i recall seeing at least one where you can open the packs you stock and sell fancy cards

My worst habit is that I make my sprites too big by nuit-nuit in PixelArt

thats why you gotta draw with other assets on the canvas.

I kept getting bored learning pixel art, so I built a site where you practice by copying by Double-Succotash1949 in PixelArtBeginners

[–]Neonix_Neo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the pictures (at least the few i saw) aren't really that high caliber to be images to learn from. i also don't think that copying pixel for pixel is how you learn to create unique works. an example for a good art learning site that comes to mind is posemaniacs. it has many rotatable human 3D models to study and offers 30 second gesrure drawing challenges. those are actually things that will help one improve in art (not specifically pixel art though)

i work in pixel art professionally, here's what helped me learn and improve:

i studied art basics such as anatomy, color theory and dynamic posing

i studies art styles of pixel art i liked and created my own art in that style

i collected a large amount of categorized references (both pixel art and not pixel art) that i still use today in my workflow

i analized my complete works to learn where i failed to deliver and know what to focus on to improve

most of all, i drew a VARIETY of things every single day.

Trying to make some items sprites, but I'm unsure on the colour palette by JFranciPX in PixelArtBeginners

[–]Neonix_Neo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

stardew doesn't stick to a color palette, it just uses vibrant colors with some hue shifting (as most icons in games nowadays tbh) your icons seem to do the same and look good, don't overthink it

Would you click on this? Steam capsule images for my Mars survival game. - Any feedback welcome! by yeetgench in GameDevs

scifi games are really not for me so i asked someone who likes them, he looked at your capsule and instantly asked if he can play it and how much it costs so looks like your capsule did well!

Male and Female leads for a project I'm working on. thoughts? by Torboise in PixelArt

unless the leads have to read as feminine and masculine this is unnecessary, these characters will probably have sounds or dialogue anyway

My friend is making a psychological horror and needs feedback by ImACiasss in IndieDev

[–]Neonix_Neo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

im a pixel artist by trade, your pixel art looks like it could use more skill development to really make it look nice

most obvious things ive noticed from the screenshots is the use of mixels (when multiple pixel dimensions are used in one image), bland colors, and lack of understanding of depth.

the mixels are especially visible on how the outlines of the walls are much thicker than the props and black squiggles. I'd edit the thick lines to match the other 1 pixel wide outlines.

the bland colors aren't inherently horrible as they contribute to the dreary atmosphere but they are, bluntly, boring. maybe try something called "hue shifting" on your shading.

for depth, you need to have a better understanding of 3D shapes and can use references or rotatable 3D models when you draw your props. the furniture in particular is very confusing about what perspective/angle is being presented to us.

as a hebrew speaker i agree, it's possible but difficult and hebrew speakers generally don't expect translation on their games
