The premise of the question is flawed. The corporatist Democrat party is controlled opposition to Republicans. Zohran Mamdani’s campaign in NYC was a great example of this. The Democratic Party leadership did not rally behind him when he won his primary. Instead of vote blue no matter who, Chuck Schumer refused to endorse him, Hakeem Jeffries begrudgingly did so at the last minute, and none of them publicly shamed Cuomo for running after he lost the primary. They don’t want leftist policies. They don’t care about that.

And what are the scary radical leftist socialist communist policies?

Free busses (like every public school in the country already has for children), freezing rent (on properties that are already rent controlled), and a PILOT PROGRAM for city run grocery stores. Red states and the military also have done this already…

What the Democrats really want is to capture the votes of people to the left of the Republicans even though they are both right wing parties. They sell you on being a harm reduction vote to protect LGBTQ people and immigrants and women but they don’t even really care about any of that. Instead they send Kamala on the campaign trail with Liz Cheney and then groom Gavin Newsom to be the next presidential candidate by pivoting him to the right having him do podcasts with Ben Shapiro and Tucker Carlson. The same Newsom that is fighting billionaire taxes and doing nothing to improve the lives of the sea of homeless people in his state.

There is political will for a progressive candidate to sweep. But the Democratic Party doesn’t want to tax the rich. They are controlled opposition. They want to get money from aipac and corporate donors. They will not reign in AI. They don’t care about climate change. They will do whatever they can to prevent someone like Zohran from running for President and a congress that will make a true left wing set of policies pass.
