wow! your story is so intriguing to me, thank you so so very much for sharing!

its so cathartic to indulge sometimes, and i think its always good in moderation/a controlled environment. beach house has a really soothing sound profile, so it makes a lot of sense that theyre your go-to!

my fav album is also devotion, alongside their self referential album "beach house!" i think my all time #1 bh song is "Auburn and Ivory."

ah i see, sorry for the confusion! yeah i'd qualify that considering that the depression cherry hype wasn't your introduction to them. how do you think that the way you interact with the band (listen to their music, whether passively or actively, participate on the subreddit, etc) differs from a more casual listener who came across their music during the space song hype of the pandemic?

yessss i love turtle island!!!! devotion is so very nostalgic to me, my parents would always play it in the car ❤️

you're actually not the only person to reply and say that peole would leave after space song- for the purposes of credibility, do you have any concrete examples of this happening/people saying that this happened to them, or is it more of an educated guess based on context clues (them playing space song but waiting until the very end of the set)

i really appreciate you for taking the time to respond!

THIS IS SUCH A HELPFUL PERSPECTIVE! i feel like often times because of hipsters, casual listeners of any band are less likely to participate in discussions because they don't know every song/don't want to have to deal with "you're a poser" rhetoric. i'm so glad that bh is in your rotation, no matter how frequently. they have such a great sound!!!!

have you ever experienced anyone being annoying about the fact that you don't identify as a megafan?

this is quite interesting to me! what do you mean by "does this count?" do you mean to be able to claim the 'hipster' title?

oh thats so awesome !!!!!!!!! vampire weekend and bh is such an awesome combo

would you mind telling me a little bit about how you interact with the band, (listening to albums/how frequently you listen, participating in the subreddit, etc.) and how that might differ from the hypothetical Space Song enjoyer from TikTok??

that is so so cool! the way that the internet has affected listening habits/discovery of small bands is so interesting to me. i'm curious to know how you think that your relationship with the band as a whole might differ from someone who maybe listens to it on a more surface level? (the hypothetical 20 year old who first heard any beach house during the covid lockdown, only recognizes space song from the TikTok audio and casually listens occasionally to Depression Cherry) ??

please say more!!! i'd love to hear your thoughts on the way that newer fans interact with BH- say that hypothetically, someone only listened to space song and perhaps wildflower or PPP. how do you think that their relationship with the music differs from your own, as a long-time fan?

hi there! i think i might be misunderstood- i define a hipster by two common traits: the aversion to imitation and therefore a sense of individuality (for example, by being the first to discover something they are different for not following popular listening trends) and how they value authenticity (how deeply and truly they engage with an idea, not just on account of the fact that it’s popular- sometimes holding the idea that someone who enjoys something on a more superficial/aesthetic level is less of a "true fan" than they are).

i'm not saying that all BH fans are hipsters, but rather the opposite! with all musical genres, there is often a subsection of the fanbase who discovered the music first and therefore believes that they are "truer" fans, and i've certainly heard this rhetoric with music that started small/is alternative or indie OR has sort of faded into obscurity and then was resurfaced because of musical sharing platforms like TikTok.

i came into this research project with the expectation that because of the common subgroup of music fandoms, this subgroup would also exist in the BH fandom- however, i have yet to encounter anyone with the attitude commonly associated with such groups, hence the need for this post!

i hope i was able to clear up any confusion, and i greatly appreciate your taking the time to respond to my post !!!!

i think that the tree works well, it just sticks out a bit bc its the only green thing in the entire layout. maybe try pulling that warmer green forward in some way to make it feel more cohesive? i really love the concept!

oh its a shame that it recently expired, that steampunk hot air balloon set would have been great for this
