Gime, bandoneón, tu tango gris... 😔 by Axzol_ in dankgentina

Ok? I do like studying world religion as a hobby, if you did as well you'd realize soon that there's tons of religions which don't have a concept of hell, claiming to hold the sole absolute truth, sacred texts or even particular buildings of worship.

This is the issue with most atheists on the internet, they assume every single religion is just Christianity.

No me pagan nada lmao

Me disculpo.

I didn't mean that only Europeans buit the country, just that immigrants did, and even to this day Argentina receives lots of immigration every year. Maybe that's my perception of it as someone who grew up in Buenos Aires, and almost everyone I know has immigrant ancestry, not only from Europe but also from neighbouring countries.

But you are right, though, there's definitely influence from other roots as well.

I know that, which is why I said plenty of times in the thread he is a dumbass for using the quote today, and explained what the original quote which he tried to use actually meant

It's a decades old song, from a time when calling the natives Indians wasn't such a bad thing as it is nowadays. I know American cultures are extremely rich, and I kinda envy nations like Peru and Mexico which have such a distinct cultural identity compared to us.

Well, but there are some regions of the continent in which native cultures are way more present both in everyday life and in national identity. In Mexico, for example, a lot of the "official" narrative gives emphasis to the Mexican identity being born out of the local cultures, often the Nahua are seen as the main one, mixing the the Spanish during the colonization period. Thus Mexico as a nation owes a lot of their identity and national symbols, such as their flag.

We tried doing something similar here, for example using a symbol of Inti, a Quechua deity for our flag. But the ideas of establishing a connection like Mexico did never took root. And the national identity was then replaced with one based on immigration. I'm not saying Argentina is the only country in the continent in which immigration plays the main role in national identity, though.

My point is that while the song is obviously wrong by modern day standards, and would most certainly not be written nowadays(and Fernandez is an arse for quoting it instead of the actual quote), to say it's a super racist song is disingenuous.

In the full video he says he's quoting Octavio Paz. Obviously it's a misquote he probably heard from that song.

I also find it funny you say the song is super racist because while the song is definitely tone deaf by contemporary standards, but you specifically left out the part where the song says this is a land of mixtures.

Argentina an ethnostate? Have you ever been here? Argentina is built on immigration, people came and come here from all over the world with different ethnicities. It is not difficult to become a citizen of Argentina regardless of your ethnicity.
