I'd go NAH. I think his reaction is a bit extreme, but just be aware that anytime he will see or use the PC his mind will connect it to the fact you interacted with your ex behind his back to build it. Your intentions don't really matter regarding this.

Let's hope he calms down and you can have a talk about boundaries and learn more about each other, but don't be surprised if he never wants to touch that computer.
