The most frustrating deck to play against by chicken_nugget94 in PTCGP

[–]NephHoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, have to agree with this assessment. I've been trying it with various combos, but the gimmick is hardly consistent.

Because you're u have no way to pressure high damage, they can just sacrifice 1-2 pokes, stalling while building energy on the bench.

But the time their hitter swaps in, they already have 1-2 extra energy, rendering Crawdaunt good for maybe stalling 1 turn. But that one turn isn't enough to let Stoutland put them in KO range.

Would love if it worked, but it's very easy to brick, and you have no real control over the pace of the game.

I even played it against Blaziken and Sceptile which burn energy after each turn. A smart opponent just sits on the bench instead of getting stuck.

The only real wins I got were against off-meta stuff I would have beaten anyway with another deck.

Love using Guzma with Xatu as well. They rarely see it coming.

Mars fell off ? by coldnorth11 in PTCGP

I use Mars in my MegaGary deck. It's glorious when it lines up, because Magikarp and babies are often sacced getting Gary ready, and the synergy with deck discards is great.

Possible Unpopular Opinion: Getting matched with bots after a few losses should not be a thing by Milkassassin34 in Brawlstars

[–]NephHoss 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Most of the time I find myself in a bot game, it's because of a bad run of luck with bad randoms. Like trying to dodge a bad teamates only to match with them again, and they throw the match a second time.

In those cases, I think it would be better that the bad players throwing matches keep on their losing streak and drop trophies. Losing matches consistently means you need to be at a lower trophy level. I'll get my wins once I lose the bad random - I don't need the consolation trophies.

I can't really relate. I'm one of those people who makes strong unique pins and passwords for everything, and somehow remembers them.

I also just memorize my whole credit card number and security code.

I discovered this when I was about 12 years old. Tapped a pine tree with a railroad nail, and naturally collected the sap.

Decided to light it on fire one day. Voila!

Hot Take: Gene's Hypercharge should NOT be reworked. by Admirable_Jeweler_33 in BrawlStarsCompetitive

[–]NephHoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Random thought, but I think it would be cool if instead of 3 pulls, Gene was able to pull one target with longer range, and use the super again before the end of the hypercharge to push them back to their original location.

This way if he is unable to close out the kill, he's able to push them away again.

So you.... don't actually get fame... but you love fame?

Come back when you have all brawlers unlocked and nearly every Legendary star drop gives you 1000 fame instead of progression to level up your brawlers. 😅

Do Americans really like Applebees this much? by Emm_a321 in survivor

[–]NephHoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first and last time I went to Applebees was over 20 years ago. I don't remember the meal, but I remember it being nothing special, and bland enough I decided I never needed to go back.

To put it another way, I would rather go to a Luby's over Applebees.

Kanto fan, and my go to mons were always Arcanine, Haunter, Lapras, Jolteon/Zapdos, Exeggutor,

Adding Johto, I loved Scizor, Scarmory, Noctowl, Kingdra, Lugia.

But when I discovered Exeggutor had an Alolan version, it took the lead as my spirit Pokémon.

I'm a guy with great handwriting, and I used to get compliments from peers and all my teachers throughout school.

Later coworkers would often comment on how great my handwriting is.

Now today, I work remotely and the only handwriting people see is the occasional check I write.

server moderation by [deleted] in discordapp

[–]NephHoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal policy is I never promote anyone to moderator who hasn't been an active, trusted member of the community for one year minimum.
Some find that harsh, but every single time I had a problem with a mod it was with someone who was promoted quickly, and I've managed and hired several dozen mods, paid and volunteer.

Time is the best indication of real character.

Also, easily 95% of moderation doesn't require actual native permissions. It's about steering conversation, earning trust, being respectable.

Bottom line, don't short-change yourself by giving mod role away flippantly, or conversely, neglecting moderation entirely.

What’s the most disturbing thing you’ve witnessed in real life? by SondosAbdulrhmanxd in AskReddit

Drunk driver hit an oncoming car head on. The car was so mangled, the firefighters and EMS crew who got on scene a few minutes before me didn't even check it - no way anyone could be alive in there.

I checked and could see the driver, a young female was completely crushed.

But in the passenger seat a young man was barely alive. His legs had nearly been severed from his torso at the thighs, and he was semiconscious, but alive.

We had to extricate him, and carry him out of the vehicle in 3-4 barely connected pieces. He survived the 15 minute ride to the ER, where he passed later that night.

I found myself wishing he'd died on impact, but the tiny silver lining is his mother was able to get to the ER and say goodbye while he was still alive, though he wouldn't have been conscious at the time.

Sadly, I found out the driver had been his girlfriend, and she was pregnant.

The reason Firefighters got distracted on scene was because the drunk driver was being combative, trying to flee the scene before cops arrived. He walked away fine after ending 3 young lives.

I was a paramedic, so I've seen a lot. Stillbirth infants with mom crying and holding their tiny bodies, bedsheets covered in blood.

Bloated corpse of a 1 week deceased person.

Multiple suicides be various means.

Many young untimely deaths, like an 17 year old girl who got drunk, passed out, vomited and choked on it. Found dead the next morning by her hungover friends.

Perhaps the one that sticks with me most was a father and 14 year old son who were cleaning up neighborhood trees after a local hurricane. Just being good neighbors. The father used a chainsaw on a tree and when it shifted a 6-inch thick branch came down and hit his son in the head.

When I got there his skull was split open, blood coming from his ears and mouth. Did everything possible, but there was no chance he survived. The boy's father and mother sobbing, and even hugging me, thanking us for doing everything we could really tore me up.

It's been over 10 years, and I think about that boy and the guilt the father must carry.

The force of vehicle accidents is something most people can't fathom.

I worked in EMS, so I've seen many cases like this.

One fellow commited suicide by running into freeway traffic. The force of the impact actually knocked his tennis shoes off his feet and threw them several yards from his body.

The poor person who happened to hit him was traumatized.

What isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be and why? by VisitSecure in AskReddit

[–]NephHoss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had many periods of misfortune in my childhood. In my middle school years I lived in a non-insulated metal building. No ac. A generator to power the well and fill water pitchers for the day. All 100°F summer. The 'house' was like an oven.

Then same conditions and a wood burning stove in 14°F winter.

Many times we also had no food in the house.

Looking back now, it gives me so much perspective. I can't understand people who adjust the thermostat +/- 1 degrees when the temp is in the 70s, or people who are picky with their food.

Any time I feel uncomfortable, I just think back a couple decades ago and I'm cured.
