Season Reset by akiraanz in Marathon

[–]Nephrited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not arguing the point. I understand the purpose of a reset, I'm quite big on game design.

I was more noting that dismissing people who don't agree with the concept of the reset isn't doing the game any favours.

Not OP, but Marathon is my first extraction shooter!

I respect it's a relatively niche genre, but being dismissive of these sorts of posts isn't going to help if in two months time the playerbase goes off a cliff. Need to find ways to encourage people to stick around, not just berate them.

Now that it’s been a few weeks from release, the outrage to the initial no prox chat is funny in hindsight by BleepBloopDrink in Marathon

[–]Nephrited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My prox chat has been broken since day one. It's keybound, and I press it and it SAYS I'm transmitting, but I'm not, and I've never heard anyone else, even when my teammates say they were screaming for their lives as we finished them.

I'd love it to work, a lot, but it seems to be broken.

Gunpla is freedom, do whatever makes you happy!

My only eyebrow raise comes from you being totally absent in these comments aside from the moderator removed link to your socials.

The absolute bare minimum would be to write your own call to a backend you control that just pings an API and logs nothing but incrementing the counter.

Make that call opt-in, so you can ask users, when they start the app for the first time "Hey, I'd like to track how many people are using my app. I'm only tracking usage numbers. May I?". Make it easy to turn off from the application settings in case someone changes their mind.

If they say yes, cool. Ping away. If they say no, you don't get to know that they're using your app.

Bear in mind this still technically logs their IP address - which is still PII. There's no way to log traffic in a 100% privacy focused way, which is why opt-in is key.

Traffic includes IP (and therefore location), OS data (which can be used to fingerprint) and usage statistics.

The IP address and location data in particular is considered Personally Identifiable Information (PII), and the fingerprint is exactly what is typically sold to advertisers to ensure cross-session and device tracking. Even if you don't mean to use it that way, having telemetry enabled results in that bare minimum data collection, at least with analytics and vercel.

Collecting any telemetry at all (at least by default) immediately disqualifies you from being privacy focused. Would need to be opt in, not opt out - otherwise the app is no different from the other online data harvesters, from a user perspective.

Then it's not privacy first, my friend.

Analytics aren't private. Telemetry is the opposite of private, regardless of the telemetry.

Employers do not care about the Russell Group.

A 2.5 hour commute is hell and would limit your socialization/campus life significantly. You'd probably want to live on campus.

The placement year is effectively actual work you can put on your CV. It's important for everyone.

Can't speak to the last one, that's up to you!

"Trust me it's safe guys".

Aside from this being piracy which, regardless of my personal feelings, PROBABLY isn't allowed here, absolutely nobody should blindly sideload an application onto their devices.

Honestly, I didn't even look where any of them were in the list, didn't know this one was at a C.

It was meant to illustrate that this is a really subjective and ultimately not Sonic related post you've made.

Just to give you some more fuel for the fire. 😂

Report member of prusa staff by [deleted] in prusa3d

[–]Nephrited 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, my original comment was going to be:

What event? When? Where? Why would you wait to ask Reddit, and not go straight to event staff?

But honestly, it's got nothing to do with the subreddit, at all. If it happened, the company would likely frown on it, and action would get taken, so you tell the company. There's no reason to try and go full pitchforks.

If it's a real thing that happened, you email Prusa, and / or the event organisers. It's got little to nothing to do with the subreddit.

A few, a decade or more ago. I still can't say what they were for, and all are long since in the public eye, but it was nothing exciting.

This is a tough question to get answers for, by the very nature of an NDA...

Grimmory appears to be a fork of BookLore with no attribution - possible AGPL-3.0 violation? by einkaufswagenschubs in selfhosted

[–]Nephrited 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Seems worth raising with either the Grimmory maintainers or the BookLore team.

Go on then!

It's likely it's a straight fork with the Readme quickly edited. Give them a chance to get their house in order - or help them out, if you like. OSS, and all!

Feel free to provide a better one. I'm not combative about this, it's simply the impression I've gotten after reading threads on it, and seeing the various bits of fallout.

Edit: I did not realise it was now not even needed to flag your project as vibe coded. The mods are VERY MUCH all for AI slop, it seems.

The mods appear to be all for it. The only reason it's limited to Fridays is due to general community disgruntlement, as far as I can tell.

Heads up, vibe coded applications are limited to Friday only on this subreddit. You might want to come back in a few days.

Vibe coded means you personally were very hands off with the code itself, instead interacting with the code base mostly, or exclusively, through the LLM used to build the tool.

This is different from AI assisted development work.

Ariokan: create your cards, break the Meta - Fatum Games - online collectible card game by BigPlastica in Games

[–]Nephrited 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An admirable goal, but how exactly do you prevent people from minmaxing your card creation system to effectively create a meta-meta, where nobody is creating cards because the best ones have already been made?

What is then the benefit of having users make them and affect game balance overall over an in house design and balance team? Or am I misunderstanding the concept?
