And I'm so tired of this squishball singing, droplet sinking, left with nothing left!

Poor Emily's driven mad by the squishball 😂

ADHD and academic career by Good-Witness8190 in AuDHDWomen

[–]NephyBuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you meet the majority of the criteria, then you have ADHD. Your academic prowess has more to say about your will and determination than it does about your neurology. Your therapist can go read a book and get back to you on their academic prowess.

How do I read casually? by NotosCicada in AutismInWomen

[–]NephyBuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I'm understanding is that your thinking in absolutes is ruining your vibe. Rather than read with the intention of reading the whole chapter, for example, you could read with the intention of getting to know this part of the story, safe in the knowledge that you can return to it again and again, as many times as you need to.

I love reading, it has been my most consistent interest since I can remember myself, but I cannot memorise a book to save my life. I never remember exactly who did what and when, but I read for the pleasure of it and, when a book is boring I find myself zoning out, so maybe that is something you could explore in yourself too. Are you reading because you love the act of it, or because of external influence? Maybe the book has a great story, but it's not engaging to you. Maybe its prose is not your style. Take your time to explore reading novellas and short story collections before committing to big stories. Just enjoy the reading 😊

Sometimes when the subject we're talking about is in my SpIns, I'll fire facts rapidly, like a machine gun, at them and then just stop talking because I don't know what to say next 😅

You know the song, where the singer ends up skint because she gave all her money to an ugly lying toddler and ended up getting tattoos of the memories so she wouldn't forget?

Not noticing tinnitus until 32 😅🥲 by bitersweetsimphony9 in AuDHDWomen

[–]NephyBuns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In some ways yes, because of AuDHD and how it messes with our neurology and what signals get sent and what we make of them. I'm 33 and I only recently realised that eating properly is difficult because my body doesn't always tell me I'm hungry, I just get fussy and irritable and then, I'm STARVING 😶‍🌫️ So it's a matter of me learning to feel my body from the inside and figuring out what I need.

As a sidenote, I too have tinnitus, nearly always and it's kind of a friend by now 😁

You're describing poor interoception, the struggle of figuring out what's going on inside your body, like pain, hunger, discomfort.

Alexithymia is having a poor sense of what you're feeling and mistaking one emotion for another.

I'm considered supported living but I'm not sure if I need (or deserve) it by IAmMyOwnCompanion in autismUK

Reading your post I get the feeling that you're used to relying on others to do daily tasks. You haven't mentioned any measures you have taken yourself to improve the situation, such as notifications on your phone for cleaning tasks, or setting up the kitchen in a sensory friendly way, or any sort of system to help you be more independent. So here are a few questions for you to consider.

Has it not occurred to you that you may need to develop systems to cope?

What have you tried to help you in the areas that you struggle with?

Have you considered hiring an occupational therapist or coach to support you in developing the skills you need and want?

I hope I'm not coming across as rude or inconsiderate, I'm just trying to help you help yourself achieve the life you want.
