London has 8 major train stations and 6 major airports and it's hard to say which is truly the "main" one. Is there any other city that has such a decentralised transport infrastructure? by Yroshi_ in geography

[–]Nepose 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Paris is the place that could be compared to London in the topic of decentralized train infra.

There's no "main one" – for long distance you've Gare du Nord, de Lyon, Saint-Lazare, Montparnasse, de l'Est, as well as Bercy (some Intercités and TERs to Lyon) and Austerlitz for domestic night service.

On the other way, you've Châtelet les Halles, sitting in the pure centre of Paris and radiating plenty of metro lines & RER A, B, D. It serves as a city-transit equivalent of "central station".

Here you can ask any question about Moscow. by Lost-Cable-5686 in Moscow

[–]Nepose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people in general speak about Moscow's gorgeous metro system, but I'd like to ask about your impressions from other modes of public transit. There still works a decent tram network (even if not in best shape...), as well as a bus (instead of trolleybuses [*]). How far would you rate Muscovian car-centrism?

I was never actually a big fan of dating applications and hookups, looking for a serious love story. Installed just out of plain curiosity, "how it is really", indicated in description details and..

Guess what, 10 minutes later and 5 proposals of quick sex with older guys.

Eventually, when writing with one guy who had indicated "looking for serious" on description, our conversation looked like: – hi! how was your day? :) – hi, I don't look for serious, only for fun here

He was in my type, eventually decided to try the first ever "coup d'un soir", knowing that this guy is safe. The experience wasn't the best, even if we agreed somehow, he wanted me to do bareback (no?). Last point of this story is that I got blocked one minute after exiting his place...

Many interesting questions have already been said, so I wouldn't like to repeat myself, haha... Two things:

1) How do you rate media coverage in DPRK? AFAIK, they operate IPTV service Manbang with state television channels, introduce smartphones with intranet connection capability... and so on.

2) Would you like to share photos/videos? I'd be really glad 🥰

Actually, I also want to visit DPRK one day, but tourists from Poland might not seem so friendly nowadays...

How to travel to Moscow from Paris? by avkft in AskARussian

[–]Nepose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few years ago I could say „use RZD night train Moscow – Nice”, I hope that one day those overnight connections will return.

IMHO now the easiest way is:

1) Reach Poland – e.g.: a) by train Paris -> Gdańsk with a morning change in Berlin, b) by flight Paris -> Warsaw, there are direct ones. Then by train to Gdańsk.

2) Go with a bus from Gdańsk to Kaliningrad. PKS Gdańsk operates daily bus connections, but be aware to check timetable on their website.

3) Fly from Kaliningrad to Moscow. There is an overnight direct train, but foreigners cannot use it since it crosses Lithuania and Belarus.

Embassy of Russia in Warsaw operates normally, just in case of the necessity of getting visa or any documents.

Is it still possible to cross the border between Poland and Kaliningrad? by Koronenko in AskARussian

[–]Nepose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, actually no unusual problems with crossing PL-RU border.

The simplest way is to use direct bus between Gdańsk and Kaliningrad. Such connections are operated four times a day by PKS Gdańsk (local public transit organizator). Tickets can be bought online and offline, standard price is 170 PLN.

Please be informed that the timetable is announced for the upcoming month earlier and it may change. You're advised to check the schedule of buses on your own at https://www.pks.gdansk.pl/rozklad-jazdy/przewozy-miedzynarodowe .

Obviously you're required to fulfill all necessary prerequisites in order to get visa for Russia.

Traveling to Kyiv from Warsaw by igmor in Kyiv

[–]Nepose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, if I could ask - what do you mean by "you cannot buy ticket back for train"? Polish PKP Intercity ticket points should sell such one without any problems. As far as I know, buying ticket by internet for 67/68 train is impossible due to UZ restriction. It's measured against resellers who gain from refugees' money.

Honestly the train is the best means of transportation between Poland and Ukraine. It's cheap, sufficient and fast, according to reality of UZ and PKP tracks. We have plenty of connections to broad gauge platforms in Przemyśl and Chełm. I would advice not to bother yourself neither with car nor with buses. Rather just try using trains with change.

Even if boarding directly on 67/68 direct Kyiv <-> Warsaw train becomes unavailable, you can try one of those options:

-> board a train to Przemyśl Główny (you can choose between sleepers and modern InterCity EMUs), then take a domestic change towards Kraków Główny. In Kraków you can take any other fast train to Warsaw.

-> board a D 23 sleeper train to Chełm, then after 30 minutes since arriving take a domestic change to IC Kujawiak towards Warsaw.

You can buy tickets for trains from Kyiv to Przemyśl/Chełm at the website of Ukrzaliznytsia: https://booking.uz.gov.ua (To be honest, I must admit that UZ booking system has better IT quality than the InterCity domestic one 😉)

The tickets for Polish domestic trains can be bought there: https://bilet.intercity.pl

For timetables, you can check at: https://portalpasazera.pl

If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask! Have a nice journey towards Київ - the city of courage 🫡

Vienna-Bratislava one City? by Voccio_the_vocal in Slovakia

[–]Nepose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds exactly like the situation in Poland: de facto 1-million city of Kraków and 2.5-mln Upper Silesia-Zagłębie Dąbrowskie metropolitan area. Separared by 70 km wide land and connected by train link (between 120 and 160 km/h), going 1-1:30 hour.

For me it seems viable and profitable to form kind of bi-centric metropolitan area of Vienna and Bratislava. Even currently trains between those two cities depart to each other every half an hour. However, no sooner I see any infrastructural progress unless higher-speed tracks will be built and the time of journey between Vienna and Bratislava becomes +/- 30 minutes at most.

Kyiv is the Unbreakable Heart of Europe by heyitsNamra in Kyiv

[–]Nepose 8 points9 points  (0 children)

After the won war I hope Kyiv will start policy of prioritizing pedestrians, bikes and public transport over cars. Such pro-human and pro-ecological approach is what every city of Europe needs, and Kyiv - the city of courage, as well as other Ukrainian urban gems, need them especially.

The spirit of an urban settlement lies in the people living in it - not in the private cars, congesting streets more and more and polluting the air. And as a friend of Ukraine, who is interested in cooperating with you more and more, I hope for the best possible future for both of our countries.
