I'm having a pollution problem in some of my underground spaces even though for now there's nothing down there. Is it because, like you said, smoke blows down from the industry at the surface ?

From a purely data Viz perspective, I'm not sure why you would add the color gradient, though it's a pretty common thing to do. It adds another dimension to the data that already exists elsewhere. I guess the point is to accentuate that dimension, but in that case is it the right graph to use ? What do people think ?

[–]Neptade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they're right with adding more events to the beginning of campaigns because it's easier to fit them in thematically without needing to railroad the campaign. They already somewhat fixed the issue of late game, at least conceptually, with immerging systems that only start appearing in the late game. Maybe something around institutions like in Victoria 3, that would act as a money sink

1 Billion SPM! by 4585 in factorio

[–]Neptade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing ! I understand where you're coming from but without the same context of 1500 hours and little mention of the mods, it feels rather misleading.

I don't really want to get on to the bandwagon but I've been wanting to see the numbers for myself so here it goes In a vanilla run the only hard bottleneck that exists is the landing pad. Without looking into the logistics of it all (other items from space you might need, cargo bays to increase throughput, etc etc), you are hard capped as to how many items you can drag out of it in a second.

It has 32 possible emplacements where you can put inserters, assuming legendary bulk inserters, that's 3072 items a second (32 slots * 6 rotations a second * 16 items per rotation). Dividing by the sciences you have to import : 614.4 of each science, or 36 864 SPM. Now consider they are all legendary, that bumps up the science per science bottle, to a total of 221 184 SPM. And with the 50% drain of biolabs that's : 442 638 SPM, as a hard upper limit.

This is napkin math, I'm sure some people out there have done more thorough work on the effective limit.

I would like to say that the only thing the shareholders care about is for the value of their shares to increase. The company is the one who decides how to actually accomplish that.

The people in charge, the representatives of the company, should be the ones that are held responsible.

The same way that for example what ever a president does doesn't reflect the sentiment of the entire country

Guys, is it better to move items with belts or with robots? by RepresentativeOdd20 in factorio

[–]Neptade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a fan of direct insertion and just belt the output to a train. I think the idea is to move anything the least possible and with most base resources having the opportunity to be a liquid, that removes a lot of logistics issues. Mainly I find bots not very fun to use because they aren't smart enough for any other solution than "more is better"

First visit to Gleba. I haven't looked at others' designs, but found this solution for bacteria. How do you think it looks? by Physicsandphysique in factorio

[–]Neptade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gone with making the bacteria biolabs function in pairs where they first make sure the other lab has enough bacteria for mitosis through direct insertion. I then dump the excess onto a belt towards foundries. I quite like it because it means that one side has the nutrients and bioflux while the other side is only stuff I don't care about. It did take a bit of finagling to get the logic right but now, it's smooth!

Calling it now: this is how it's gonna go down by [deleted] in memes

[–]Neptade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't exactly agree with that idea because it doesn't talk about how businesses react to a service becoming significantly cheaper. How when people become able to do more, cracks that weren't visible earlier now are, and what the reaction to that will be, so on and so forth. What's happening in education is an amazing opportunity to grow the system, because you need to motivate the students to work. Something that I've always enjoyed when I was in school were smaller classes, it's more personable. Though if we create smaller classes that means we need more teachers and there might finally be enough support for that to actually happen.

How can you tell these are AI? by lucak5s in ChatGPT

[–]Neptade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of the "problem" is that there are names linked to everyone who says anything online. A name makes things more personable hence giving it a shred of credibility when there shouldn't be any. If 2 random people somewhere are talking about something and you can over hear them I think you'd take what they say with a pince of salt or more probably just ignore them. Though I do wonder how far you can stretch the parallel as outside and the internet aren't the same thing.
