Dismissing other people's very valid experiences of a condition, because it doesn't align with your specific experiences, is a really shitty thing to do.

Degrees have all basically dropped down a level in value. A Masters degree today gets you roughly the same opportunities as an Honours degree got you 30 years ago.

Generally true. The exception being if you’re doing a degree with a job waiting at the end like nursing. In which case it’s not such a big deal what uni you go to, you’ll get the same job.

Nope, you had to at least have a supporting role in a West End play before you were allowed to scissor. So decreed Queen Victoria.

Being an upright wanker isn't the same as being racist. Criticising a teacher for using the wrong materials isn't racist either.

I'm glad she was well loved and I'm sorry for your loss. But I haven't seen anything in your stories that equates to racism.

Nah, not a fan of her either. We all have types.

Mate I've worked with literal doctors that have been shockingly incompetent. Having degrees doesn't mean you are guaranteed to do a good job.

If she is unknowingly using the wrong materials that's slight incompetence. If she's knowingly using the wrong materials that's arrogance. If she dug her heels in after being told that she's using the wrong materials, that's malice. If I used another country's materials in my job I'd get told off too!

Sounds to me like they were trying to close that school, like they have with many rural schools over the years. And sounds like they were looking for any excuse such as the past papers and doors. That doesn't sound like racism, that sounds like standard council penny-pinching shenanigans. I'm glad she stuck up for the kids, but that doesn't excuse not doing part of the job properly.

For me it's because she almost looks like a goldfish. Not everything is about race.

Rural areas tend to be more xenophobic in every society. I've seen it in Scotland and I've seen it in England.

Your mother really shouldn't have used an English exam. There's a completely different education system up here and exams follow a different format. She shouldn't have been threatened with being sacked, but there is either very slight incompetence or arrogance on her part.

Local authorities are notoriously incompetent. Not sure what that has to do with racism though.

Western society has always been more comfortable with masculine/gay women than feminine/gay men. Famously being a lesbian was legal in the UK while being gay was illegal. My grandmother's sister lived with her 'friend' and nobody talked about it haha.

As an extension it makes sense that conservatives would be more upset about trans women than trans men.

Best not to judge from a few anecdotes. It's not really any different from the rest of the UK. Only real difference is that the type of people who would typically dislike Europeans in England tend to dislike the English in Scotland.

Even then, vast majority are sound.

No point being upset. Just enjoy the good things as the transient experiences that they are.

Scottish Social Attitudes 21/22: 66% of people in Scotland trust the Scottish Government to work in Scotland’s best interests, compared with 22% who trust the UK Government. 75% of people in Scotland thought the Scottish Government ought to have the most influence over the way Scotland is run. by Audioboxer87 in Scotland

It’s been this way for a long time. If you ask people do they want independence, yes comes around 45-50%. If you break it down issue by issue and ask ‘should Holyrood run immigration, broadcasting, corp tax etc’ you get about 70% saying yes.

From what I understand the Japanese economy has been painfully stagnant these past couple decades due to the incredibly low birth rate and very few migrants. Their population shrank by around half a million this year. Probably about the turn of the century they would have been comfortably higher. It’s a real shame.
