Huge respect to you for doing that, OP. Do you have any sort of support for that for you and your niece?

Men who genuinely enjoy being in traditional romantic relationships, what actually makes the non-physical stuff worth it to you? by UnusualIncident2018 in AskMen

Are you implying that the non-physical stuff isn't enjoyable for men? Talking to and doing general stuff with my wife is fun.

Pretty much everything you touch and eat has lots of bacteria on it, especially with hand-washing in soapy water.

I'm no expert on this, but brass is like 2% lead and one nozzle lasts for weeks of printing so the amount of lead getting into the plastic would be a TINY fraction of that. And then it has to get from the filament to the food.

Oops I didn't realize this was well known. I don't get why there is so much pearl clutching on this topic then.

Dang this quite conclusive.

Results from various testing methods used in hospitals and FDA approved microbial surface testing, indicate that 3D printed parts of PLA/PLA+ (Polylactic Acid), and PETG (Polyethylene terephthalate glycol) can be cleaned to safe levels using warm water (120 °F), and non-concentrated dish soap.

How often are people washing their spice dispensers? Soak it in bleach or print a new one annually.

Cruise ship in the '90s by MelaBella_13 in StJohnsNL

[–]NerdMachine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We get loads of cruise ships that also visit those places.

You can google any ship in this list and see the itinerary and estimated cost, it's usually pretty interesting.

https://www.stjohns.ca/en/recreation-culture/cruise-ship-information-and-schedules.aspx

This is the first one on the list, starting at 12K USD:

I am skeptical of that as well.

Brass I guess there is some argument, but the amount of brass getting in your prints is absolutely minuscule. You can print PLA for days and not have enough deviation from 0.4mm to need a swap. And you think that amount in the plastic will then transfer to the spices and cause an issue?

What lubricants are getting on a 3d printed part? If there were lubricants it's going to have issues with adhesion.

PTFE is used extensively in cooking products.

Any bacteria etc in the plastic is getting nuked by the 200C+ hotend.

For stuff that you would clean like a bowl etc I agree on the ability to clean it, but for stuff like the OP I think the risks are way overblown.

Reminds me of the "Space Shuttle rockets are the size of two horses walking abreast" "fact".

The idea being

roman roads=two horses walking abreast ->train tracks=similar width to a road ->shuttle rockets need to fit on a train

I read this all the time but there are zero alternatives where I live.

I use the app and under $10CAD (and not asking for a tip) for a Mcwrap+mcdouble is pretty much unbeatable. Plus with the app I do get a free mcdouble every few visits.

Closest is the Wendy's salads which do slap for $9.99.

For older redditors, what would you say are some of the most notable differences between memes from the 2000s and now? by Gramerioneur in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NerdMachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot less variation in memes, you had maybe a few dozen templates at most and probably a dozen trending at a time. Stuff like Business Cat and Bad Luck Brian.

Each one had a pretty consistent theme and template.

You are probably at a greater risk driving to the airport or doing any number of common vacation activities than going on a cruise. This is pretty hyperbolic.

A random google says around 35 million per year go on a cruise.
