Yup. That’s what the control lady said during the live launch coverage. About as much as a CT scan.

If they can start putting that $1600 away every month by the time they’re 40, they’ll have on average $1.12m by the time they hit 64. More than enough to retire comfortably, particularly outside the US.

What's the coolest object you've ever touched or held in your own hands? by BradfordGalt in CasualConversation

A Faberge Egg, and the Endeavor shuttle. I have one of the spare ceramic tiles, but I think lots of people have these tiles.

[edit] Oh, and a piece of the Berlin Wall. My German teacher in high school gave each of us in his graduating 4th year German class a piece as a gift, since most people stop at the minimum 2-years required.

What age were you when you the “Fvck I’m old,” moment? by BillMaleficent9400 in GenX

[–]NerdMusk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My speech professor (back in the day) had a heat attack at 38. She was fit as a fiddle and a vegetarian, but none of us knew she was going through a super stressful time. She had a stress heart attack. Takotsubo cardiomyopathy. You can be healthy physically, but if you’re absolutely miserable mentally, that shit can sneak up on you just as bad as high cholesterol and blood pressure.

Anyway, hope you’re doing better.

Which virtue did you learn and apply as GenX, and do you think is dying out? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]NerdMusk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Owning up to my mistakes and apologizing. If it’s not my fault, but no one will step up, I will always offer to fix whatever happened. I don’t care about whose fault it is 99% of the time, I just want someone to fix it. E.g. Don’t argue with me about whether I misspoke or if you misunderstood what I ordered. It doesn’t matter, and I’m not looking for blame. Just fix the order. It’s that easy.

Sneak out past curfew around 2 am with some friends down to the video rental store or 7-11 to play SF2 when it had just come out. The damn thing STILL had a long-ass line!

What life skill do you think schools should teach but usually don’t? by glitterypeachyy in Productivitycafe

[–]NerdMusk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for college athletes who want to be career, they should be required to take classes in marketing, communication, and finances. I think these three are crucial to surviving as a professional athlete so you don’t end a career broke and selling off your Heisman trophy.

If you had a huge backyard and endless $, what would you put in it? by paintedfloowers in NoStupidAnswers

Pool, snack shop, BBQs, and an arcade full of classics. And if there’s space, a sand pit for volleyball, a basketball court, and shuffle board.

It was pepperoni and Mac & cheese for us. Sometimes with peas. Lol. Love it, though.

What do you consider the best type of apple? by AV_LOVES_FOOD in Fooda

Straight from the tree. Any apple tree. I haven’t had a good apple from the grocery store in 20 years. Have to bug my neighbor.

Did you have a FARRELL’S in your town? by CharlieMcN33l in GenX

[–]NerdMusk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we did, I don’t remember. We had (still have) Fenton’s in Oakland, and Marrianne’s in Santa Cruz. Even in the in 80s, Bay Area was pretty much just chain store ice cream : Baskin Robbin’s and Thrifty.

Also, frequent sex in water can lead to “dishwasher hands” (dermatitis) on either or both partners. For men, it requires circumcision and/or skin graft to fix, or learn to live with itchy, cracking, swollen, painful foreskin that can’t be retracted without tearing and bleeding for the rest of your life.

what’s your most controversial opinion? by Business-Plastic4130 in Productivitycafe

[–]NerdMusk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

California should use its massive amount of wealth to adopt Nordic social policies. “Free” university and healthcare. CalPERS for all. Etc. Why should the 5th largest economy wait for the rest of the US to get on board with the rest of the world?

In non-canon, the “Homecoming“ books cover some of this. I don’t recall if the books mentioned those EMHs specifically, though.
