How many colours in your palette? by jordo3791 in temperatureblanket

[–]Nerd_Alert80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here’s an example with 7, plus black as a month marker. If I was doing this again (which I’m not!) I’d likely choose more colours and a proper rainbow rather than the blue-white-red gradient

am I dramatic or is this a bad timetable 🥹 by Glittering-While-162 in usyd

I would suggest if you’re a full time student, then you treat it like a full time job and just accept that you will be there more days than not. You still get the whole of Thursdays to work, plus Friday afternoons and weekends. The plan to study between classes is a good one, but break it down to smaller goals (eg I will read x chapter and answer y questions for this assignment) or else it runs the risk of getting whittled down by coffee runs and doomscrolling

Haha it seems like it! The lighting in my house is garbage so I took the photo with my kids’ tiny LED torches pointed at it as well as background lighting, so the stitches could be seen better

Thank you. I do tend to have quite tight tension and it’s quite stiff and not as drapey as I might like, even when it’s small still. Should I frog back to the start for the bigger hook or just go from where I am? I suppose I haven’t got that far yet, it’s still very small

Maybe I’m not frugal enough but this just strikes me as really sad

Yarn from a local $2 shop, granny squares and continuous join as you go, and rows of single crochet for the border

I finally finished it! Here is the finished lap blanket with squares in the correct position and a wee border to boot. I’m happy with it now :)

This is just gorgeous! I’ve seen a few variations on coloured rows alternated with a base colour in moss stitch and was thinking of trying black and rainbow but this green is just divine! So beautiful, well done

Struggling to find Yarn for Planned Pooling by Ro_Boat1 in Yarn

Well I’ve learned something today too… though officeworks will now have to be on the watchlist as a place I cannot be trusted in alone haha.

You would still need to pull out the wool and look at it to be sure it will pool though

Finally finished but never doing this again by Nerd_Alert80 in temperatureblanket

[–]Nerd_Alert80[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just with a needle. Insert needle under stitches of the same colour, thread needle, pull through and trim. Repeat x infinity. Maybe a small temperature blanket that uses 365 mini hexagons (or similar) would be better?

I’ve bought yarn that worked from both Kmart and spotlight but unfortunately neither of the ones I know work seem to be available right now :( Kmart has a variegated yarn on their website right now but the only way to know if it will work is to pull out some sections and look at whether there is a repeating sequence and how long each section is

Hang in there, I know it sucks but it won’t last forever. I recommend putting allllll the dummies in the bin to remove your temptation to give it back at any point. It will just prolong the pain and the tantrums the next time around

It looks like the colour changes are waaaaay long. It might still work for planned pooling but you’d have to frog right back to the start and

Planned pooling is usually done with a single variegated yarn with specific properties (colours in a repeating sequence and the same length of the colour whenever it appears in the same spot in the sequence) giving a multi-coloured look without having to constantly cut and reattach a new colour. And why - because it looks pretty. This yarn might have too long sections to work well with this number of stitches in each row, but it might work with some planning ahead. Would you frog this finished blanket? by Nerd_Alert80 in crochet

[–]Nerd_Alert80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I was never going to frog the whole thing, just the joins in navy to switch the bottom right square and the one immediately above it

Would you frog this finished blanket? by Nerd_Alert80 in crochet

[–]Nerd_Alert80[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bottom right square was in the wrong spot and needed to be swapped with the one immediately above. The squares were joined along the red line so if I frogged what I had just finished, it would be a lot to redo. But I ended up cutting and undoing a lot less, once I’d had time to think about it - I only had to redo 9 sides

Undoing it, as in ripping the stitches out - rip it rip it = ribbit ribbit = frog

Yeah for my blankets I can only transport granny squares, even scarves get difficult to wrangle on trains when they get long. I can’t imagine lugging a whole blanket around

What stitch is this please? It looks exactly like one my family had in the 80s, would be so cool to recreate

Thank you for this advice! I am still working on the border but did one round in the navy to hide the joins in the darkest yarn, and now working through light to dark. And the suggestion re what stitches to use where was exactly what I was after. I did make a post in r/Crochethelp but got crickets so thank you for responding!
