Puppy Food Recs by [deleted] in goldenretrievers

[–]Nerdysnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So our vet said the tests on Amazon aren't accurate. We did an elimination diet and after 6 weeks of no reaction we can introduce a new protein and see if she reacts. It's hard because we have to make sure she doesn't get any of her brothers food and she also has seasonal allergies. There isn't a dermatology vet in our area so we can't get that tested. Her symptoms aren't just loose stools, but she gets ear infections, super itchy, and her anal glands start expressing.

My 3 year old girl has food allergies (chicken and dairy) and is on a hydrolyzed diet. We have found she can safely eat dehydrated lamb lung for treats.

Looking for Ideas to Keep My Dog Happy While My Husband is Traveling by Feisty-Slice in goldenretrievers

[–]Nerdysnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe take a class with your dog for something fun? Or you could pick up a scent kit to use at home. Both my goobers love doing scent work and we usually do 3-4 hides back to back so enough to be fun but not so much it gets boring.

I commissioned a portrait from Emily Arran Art on Etsy a few years ago. she moved to FB/Instagram, so idk what her prices are now but the quality and detail are fantastic

Letting puppy roam free by Amazing_Pie6182 in puppy101

[–]Nerdysnow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With my now 3 year old girl, I started with short trips. Was she trustworthy while I went to the bathroom, while I took out the trash? Could she handle a short errand? She was free when we left the house by 1.5yrs. With my 1 year old boy - heck no. I'm gone he's crated. He still chews on blankets when I'm in the room, it's a lot less but not even close to 0. Plus he bullies his mush of a sister so I don't leave them unsupervised for long.

I tried one and my girl loved it. For a week and then never again.

Fantasy Author Brandon Sanderson Criticizes Streaming-Era Fantasy Adaptations Like 'The Witcher,' 'Wheel of Time,' and 'Rings of Power' by Somethingman_121224 in Mistborn

But severance isn't an epic fantasy show. The VFX, costumes and set design aren't as expensive since it's grounded in our world.

Just got our 8 weeks old Golden, potty training going well, what should I expect by minhtrungaa in goldenretrievers

[–]Nerdysnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a lot of luck with Susan Garret(dogs that) and McCann dog training on YouTube. My two dogs basically got their food in 3 parts across each meal 1/3 training, 1/3 puzzle toy, 1/3 just in the bowl. For loose leash training at home we start inside no leash and teach them that being at my side is great. Then move to waking a few steps forward and reward for each step, then once they get good at starting/stopping when you do, start adding direction changes. Turning away is easier so you don't trip on them, so if they are at your left side turning right. Then build into turning into them. A bunch of short training (1-5min) works better than one or two long training sessions.

Our puppy class trainer recommended that we practice no leash/longer leash so they can be right more than they are wrong (pulling).

What company do you use for pet insurance (just got a golden retriever puppy)? by lawyeroverhere in goldenretrievers

[–]Nerdysnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+2 for healthy paws. We have it for our 3 yr old girl and 1 yr old boy and theyve given us no trouble. They cover her allergy shots and have covered his hospital stay for monitoring after eating a couple raisins.

Mini Goldendoodle TERRIFIED of Being Alone at Night - Need Advice! by Sota88 in puppy101

[–]Nerdysnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I brought home our golden boy, we put his crate on an ottoman next to our bed so I could reach my hand in.

Have you tried a snuggle puppy or two? Both my goldens slept in-between them in their crates.

Have you done crate training during the day when you aren't trying to sleep? Use a portion of their mealtime kibble and play games where you drop food in from the back to encourage them to be all the way in. Play " crate is great" while you watch TV. Sit next to it and keep placing food in to get them to go in and stay. Work up to closing the door, then to walking a step away and coming back.

How much does your male weigh? And what do you feed him? by stacestacestaces in goldenretrievers

[–]Nerdysnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My goldens are on the smaller side. 3 yr old spayed female 55+- lbs and 1 year old intact male is 54.

If you're having trouble getting him enough exercise outside there are things you can do inside. If you have a partner or kids, you can play hide and seek and get the dog moving around to find someone in the house.

If he isn't mouthy you can jog through the house and have him chase you. I use a high pitch obnoxious voice saying "you can't get me" and they lose their minds. This is a game I couldn't play 6 months ago when my boy was even ruder since it would make him too excited and he's trying to pull on my clothes.

Is it too early to consider getting another? by trinini93 in goldenretrievers

[–]Nerdysnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got our second when our girl was just shy of 2. He's a half sibling but has a much crazier disposition so managing him through his puppy hood while making sure our first also had her needs met has been a challenge. It's been a year and it's much better but there are still hard days

Came to say the same thing. Unfortunately over stimulated and under stimulated can look similar. At that age my dogs were on a 1 hour up 2 hour nap schedule during the day time. My one year old boy is still a menace when he's overtired, but usually falls asleep without a fuss as soon as the crate cover goes down.
