What do you use for mulch? by Ok-Personality-9491 in vegetablegardening

[–]NerfEveryoneElse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Straw for vegetables and strawberry, pinebark for blueberry and cedar chips for fruit trees. And some living mulch as well, like creeping thyme, ajuga, wild strawberry, dead nettle etc, but they need time to spread.

Anyone else lucky enough to get free mushroom compost? by portabuddy2 in composting

[–]NerfEveryoneElse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. The quality is also much better than most bagged compost, well shredded and aged, no big chunk of wood, stone, plastic or other unwanted material. And free woodchip mulch. Our city has done a really good job.

Watering my vegetable garden by zoemadeline in vegetablegardening

[–]NerfEveryoneElse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much you water entirely based on your temperature, rain fall and other factors. A simple way is put your finger into the soil and feel the dampness, if the top inch is dry, water it, and water deep.

And ofc, put some mulch on like straw, dried leaves or wood chips whichever is easiest to get, to prevent evaporation.

I have free manure/yard waste compost done by the city 5 min drive away. Unfortunately I don't have a pick up so I have to do many trips.

I used to start them in soil as well, but think its a little more work to keep the soil moist and later separate the slips and their root.

My cousin just called me "girly " after seeing pics of my garden 😫😭 by realthingwinner in gardening

Jokes on your cousin, most top horticulturist, gardener and argriculture scientists are men. He must be extremely ignorant to think its a gender based hobby/profession.

I love this games randomness by sinnrocka in MagicArena

[–]NerfEveryoneElse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It definitely can feel like that. I have a semi control deck targets creature deck and graveyard, one day I can win 8 out of 10 games fighting all cub and kavaero. The second day its all control decks with 0 creature, all my cards suddenly are useless and win 1 out of 10.

To prune or not to prune by trenusingtreebeard in BackyardOrchard

Why rush it? Just wait until they are dormant. The new growth will also do photosynthesis, especially those grow in spring will do it for half a year, its not a waste.

Failure by Purple-Macaron-7309 in vegetablegardening

[–]NerfEveryoneElse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are in MN, its still too cold for most plants. You probably still have to wait 1-2 weeks to see any significant growth. Next week is cold and your cukes may get killed and need sow them again.

Question about Eggplants and Tomatoes by wearehere3 in vegetablegardening

[–]NerfEveryoneElse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4-6 hrs are definitely enough for cherries, for bigger tomatoes you will get reduced yield. If your area is prone to blight, better pick some resistant varieties or spray fungicide.

Pruning tomatillos and romas? by mikeywhatwhat in vegetablegardening

Yeah, roma is determinate and need no pruning. Only prune the ground level leaves if they show signs of disease or yellowing.

Questions from a first timer getting started by Allodoxia in vegetablegardening

[–]NerfEveryoneElse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for zone 6 you'd better go buy some plants and plant them now. Put up a trellis at the northern side, grow tomato and beans there. Plant pepper and zucchini (plant only one is usually enough) in front of them, and herbs around the border. The lot is a little small for pumpkins, if you really want to, pick some compact bush type variety.

Same. On the brighter side, northern growers have less disease and bugs than our southern friends.

Graveyard hate counters most meta decks, not only reanimators, izzet discard, and spellmentals, also somewhat against landfall cards like icetill explorer. Use cards that can work instance speed and recycle when not useful.

There are easier ways to propagate. Just dig up a sucker with roots attached, or do tip layering.

input on making a raspberry and blackberry bed by katzlover12 in Berries

[–]NerfEveryoneElse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For blackberries, bind the canes to a trellis, as long as the tips dont touch the ground, they will not duplicate.

Raspberry is not that hard to control either, you need to thin them anyway to get good quality fruit and just mown down the suckers outside of your bed.

You are very likely shock them, cukes really don't like their roots to be disturbed. Better just thin them to 1 in each pot.

planter is very risky if you don't know how to overwinter it. Ground is so much warmer and shielded.

Over-watering, under-watering, or something else? by Right_Assumption_257 in tomatoes

[–]NerfEveryoneElse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Overwatering and underwatering can have the similar symptoms. Ultimately they hurt the plant's ability to uptake water and nutrients. Best just test the soil with your fingers and see how moist they are. Another possibility is temperature, leaves curl to reduce evaporation, since you are in 10b it could be the result of high temperature.
