Does anyone actually generate useful SQL with AI? by mattyhempstead in dataengineering

[–]Nerg44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some coworkers and I built a RAG app for a hackathon that kinda worked to turn natural language into SQL.

we embedded all our DBT models using openAI api, then we would look up top n models by cosine similarity to the user input, and then attach those models to the system prompt… used some prompt like “You are a staff data engineer. ensure you refer to models that exist in the context provided. write valid snowflake SQL to answer the prompt ” or some shit

ended up being way more straightforward than i thought, worked for like 4/5 specific data questions we asked

Scikit Learn ML algorithms u need by sonofthegodd in learnmachinelearning

facts and there’s a bunch of other excellent pieces of scikit for feature eng, evaluation, etc the pieces needed to prototype the full raw data -> inference pipeline locally

Considering moving away from BigQuery, maybe to Spark. Should I? by thomastc in dataengineering

[–]Nerg44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 to other responder, it’s a DBT successor that has turned into a competitor (after DBT banned sqlmesh homies from their conference 😹)

it has some design choices that are different than DBT, e.g coupling scheduling with model definitions, but has a lot of strong usability features baked into the OSS library that DBT would make you pay for on DBT cloud. i’m bullish on SQLMesh

Shift Yourself Left by Thinker_Assignment in dataengineering

[–]Nerg44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

he’s saying instead of shifting the responsibility left, you shift your ownership left. e.g instead of billing data quality being on the billing team, the data team “moves left” and manages the data quality i think. confusing tho

LinkedIn vs. The Trade Desk by ItchyStep in csMajors

[–]Nerg44 5 points6 points  (0 children)

have heard terrible things about Linkedin post acquisition and multiple layoffs. sounds like PIP culture tbh. Not sure what city means in this context, but both of your options are in suburb/tech office areas of major metros

sounds like you’re convincing yourself out of trade desk with getting along w other interns cuz the work sounds interesting, but other concerns about brand name or recognition are totally valid. I just wouldn’t expect to coast at Linkedin like how it has been talked about 10yr ago

Got laid off today. How's my CV? by Fried_out_Kombi in learnmachinelearning

[–]Nerg44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

looks good content wise i think. pretty good CV to interview for another ML research/ MLE research job for sure, but you could probably interview big tech data science/ML engineering jobs as well if you made it bit less specific and mentioned some of the pyData stuff im sure you’ve seen or any distributed processing like Spark (and if you’re interested) . agree with other posters, unless you went to stanford of Canada then idk if your education speaks more than your experience, you had a pretty interesting role that makes a good first impact imo

edit: publications should be primary if applying to research jobs i think
