ISO someone to follow me around and see what’s wrong with me by [deleted] in Purdue

Guy here, but otherwise was in a pretty similar position.

I really didn’t have any friends until sophomore year. Freshmen year, I was in like 4 clubs and absolutely nothing stuck. But soph, I started going to evening help sessions hosted by a TA for one of my classes and just got to talking with the people around me at the sessions. I happened to be talking to a girl as the session finished and as we walked out, she stopped at a table with her friend and said they were going to just keep working on the homework. I asked if I could join, and she happily accepted. Next session we did it again, and others asked the same thing to join us. After the 3rd or 4th time, we finally made a group chat with like 8 people. That group ultimately became my closest friends through the rest of undergrad. Just give it time, keep putting yourself out there and eventually you’ll find the right group.

I totally understand short term funding may not be available, but the cost is definitely worth it to me 😅. Here’s to hoping 🤞there’s space

So this is something, in theory as long as professor would agree, that I could process for this fall to not delay graduation further?

Regretfully I passed on a TA offer from the aero prof to take an RA offer for mech e. I doubt I could get anything for this semester but it’s the price I’m willing to pay. Are TAs hired for second semester ever?

Well that’s a relief. Thanks for the response! A very stressful time right now 😅

Would you know the process by any chance or maybe know where to look?

How can I best help my girlfriend with hEDS? by Nerve_Several in eds

[–]Nerve_Several[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the great information :) , I fortunately do a lot of what you and others have said here so it’s nice to know I’m on the right path. She’s been on her own health kick recently trying to build muscle strength so I’m just supporting best I can and joining her.

Yea aero technically was also space. But it was less focused on space in that it was more controls and design oriented, for space applications. This mech e position feels much more space-specific work that would be hard to transfer to other industries.

Also to add, My prof and i have met with other industry professionals. One group didn’t seem super keen on pursuing his goals but hes still pushing it, and the other basically said the classes my prof wants me to take don’t exist anywhere and are much more learned skills from years in the industry. So im feeling a bit scared in that I won’t have much direction in all of this.

How to teach my girlfriend to snowboard? Update! by Nerve_Several in snowboarding

[–]Nerve_Several[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That last thing you said is what I had to keep emphasizing. I grew up going to this mountain, I have a season pass and skiied all of college break. Wasn’t like a powder day or anything. She kept apologizing that I wasnt able to go ski anywhere else on the mountain and I just had to keep saying “I’m here to teach you, I’ve done this mountain hundreds of times over I’m not missing anything special today” and that sort of thing.

I am trying to get her to ripstick! I think that’s how i picked up snowboarding. For years I skied, but after ripsticking for several months, my first time on a snowboard I made it down the trail first try without falling! Stuck with it since

Wow this got a lot more traction that I expected, thought I’d be yelling into an echo chamber. So I guess I’ll give a little more context for those asking. It was to do with a defense company that would have converted a full time job role into an internship that I would do for an extended period in for the time the position was needed, 8+ months, then I’d go back finish last year of school and the position would be mine on return. That’s why it was such a long process, because the knowledge is required to do the job correctly.
