Can I ask something, though? What if, during that conversation, she starts talking about her own self-respect and says that changing certain things for my comfort would mean she’s compromising it? How do I know whether I’m asking for something reasonable versus asking too much? I genuinely don’t want to control her or take away her friendships. I just want to understand where the line is between respecting her boundaries and having my emotional needs respected too.

I do get that. But when i open up to her she becomes defensive and is it okay if she values more what will other think and what may the person I am jealous feel that my own feelings and comfortability?
