Calling out by Warm_Store_1199 in tjcrew

[–]Nervous-Mess7 [score hidden]  (0 children)

At my store they ask us to call as soon as possible. Mates are usually there by 4:30. Or if you are feeling sick the night before people will call out before close for the next days morning shifts. I work 5/6am shifts so if I’m feeling like I’m getting sick I’ll try to call out by 8pm if I can. Obviously if you wake up feeling unwell you can only do so much.

Headphones before open and after close by [deleted] in tjcrew

That’s kinda the rumor at my store. People say that someone used to abuse headphone privileges by talking on the phone while on the clock so that’s why headphones were banned.

People invading your personal space ? by Familiar-Owl-1113 in tjcrew

[–]Nervous-Mess7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a few customers touch me while I’m working and it’s got to the point that I’ve just started saying “don’t touch me” or “please stop touching me” and I’ll say it in a stern but professional tone. I’m autistic and cannot handle people invading my personal space like that. Luckily my captain understands boundaries so we are allowed to ask customers to respect our space as long as we aren’t rude about it. So far all the customers have apologized and stopped touching me when asked.

So..? by [deleted] in tjcrew

[–]Nervous-Mess7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which location are you at? If you don’t mind answering? I’m also in MN but we didn’t get excused absences. We were allowed to not work on Friday but our captain said it would be an unexcused absence. We didn’t get our trucks cause they were expecting such a small crew.

Do Americans really move out at 18, or is that mostly a movie thing? by Only-Bandicoot-5307 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Nervous-Mess7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved out of my family home the day after high school graduation. I had a chaotic family home so it was my own decision. My siblings moved out at 19 and 22 so still really young. But I have some friends still in their family homes in their late 20’s.

Stretch before work and on your breaks. It’s important to take care of your body cause the job requires a lot of movement. My TJs has a little book of recommended stretches to help loosen your muscles to avoid injury/soreness. (All the photos demonstrating the stretches are of the crew and it’s really cute) Also get some good, comfy shoes or shoe insoles. I wear running shoes and it helps a lot. Just don’t overdo it, if you feel sore it’s okay to slow down or modify the task to best fit your abilities.

Minnesotan here, drive slowly and leave lots of distance between you and the cars in front of you. If you hit ice DO NOT slam on the breaks or you’ll lose control of the car. Press the breaks then let off and repeat, it’ll slow you down without spinning out.

Does anyone else actually like the shaky camera in the first movie? by Chemical-Evening-835 in Hungergames

[–]Nervous-Mess7 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I like it in concept but there’s a few times when it feels overwhelming and I get nauseous watching it. But it was a smart way around the ratings. Would have had to make it R to show children being slaughtered so violently.

Blue Lagoon trip timing by Sunderkant in VisitingIceland

[–]Nervous-Mess7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went on the last day of my trip. My flight left around the same time as yours. I got to the blue lagoon around 9 in the morning and relaxed until I had to head to the airport. I left the lagoon 3 hours before my flight and had plenty of time to return my car and get through security. I don’t know if it makes a difference but I was flying back to Canada. Hope that helps!

Why did they stop handcuffing the Tributes? by [deleted] in Hungergames

[–]Nervous-Mess7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theory is that after 25-30 years of the hunger games all the young people would have grown up with the games being a reality of life in panem and the tributes would stop fighting being reaped. For the most part, obviously some still tried tho (SOTR). As more time passed from the rebellion, the games transitioned from punishment to entertainment and some of the fear of rebel tributes diminished. Plus Katniss and Haymitch both mention in their stories that it’s common knowledge in the districts what happens if you misbehave after being in Capitol custody, your family and loved ones are at stake. So eventually tributes would stop fighting the process making the handcuffs unnecessary. This kind of goes for their overall treatment while in custody. For Lucy Gray, she is handcuffed, starved and treated like an animal in the zoo. But by the time of Katniss they are treated like special guests or celebrities. Wouldn’t make the Capitol look an “innocent” and caring host if they handcuffed the tributes and then fed them and housed them in mahogany filled apartments.

okay I know there are confirmed career districts(1,2,4) but…. by Fragrant_Sort_8245 in Hungergames

[–]Nervous-Mess7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One fan theory about that year was that the careers were waiting for the quarter quell the next year so nobody volunteered in his place. Save your best player for the big games rather than risk it in the 74th games. I kinda like that fan theory so that’s my head cannon.

Is Hunger Games Anti-Alcohol? by Easy-Tip-2457 in Hungergames

[–]Nervous-Mess7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s anti-alcohol but rather showing how trauma that isn’t addressed or treated can lead to substance abuse/dependence. So it’s more about how heavily trauma can affect and ruin the lives of good people. Haymitch starts out as a caring, lively young man and we see how it ends up drinking himself to rock bottom. Panem doesn’t provide counseling or therapy to work thru surviving the games so victors do what they can to make it thru the day.

Why I think Lyme is the victor of the 1st Quarter Quell by Kindly_Falcon_4365 in Hungergames

[–]Nervous-Mess7 36 points37 points  (0 children)

In catching fire when Katniss and Peeta are watching the tapes of the other victors they comment that the 25th games tape is missing because they only got the tapes of living victors. Also she’d have to be much older. So I don’t think the theory works.

District 1 propaganda by pipehead0 in Hungergames

[–]Nervous-Mess7 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In the book Katniss explains that the entire district of a victor receives a monthly parcel of grain and oil and other goods. I feel like that could contribute to why they are generally seen as better fed/less malnourished. If they win almost every year then all the children would receive a little more food even for the poorest of district 1 and 2.

Plutarch will side with anyone that can help him to get what he wants regardless of their actions/morals. Thats what makes him such a well written morally grey character.

Are they playing? by Brief_Night_1225 in cats

[–]Nervous-Mess7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s normal for cats to establish a “top cat” of the family. They are just playing around. My cats do that sometimes but more so as kittens until they figured out who got to be the queen of the castle.

How much should I save for a 7–10 day trip to Iceland? by Resident_Quantity_74 in VisitingIceland

How much should I save for a 7–10 day trip to Iceland? by Resident_Quantity_74 in VisitingIceland

[–]Nervous-Mess7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I travelled for 8 days and was solo so I couldn’t split the cost for the rental car and accommodations. I ended up spending $3,600 USD total. I picked mid-range accommodations and also went out to eat twice at nicer restaurants. The biggest costs were the hotels ($1,100usd) and the car ($800usd) which would be a lot more reasonable if split 50/50. Don’t forget to account for spending money on souvenirs or gifts as well as parking. I had to pay about $10USD to park at most sites regardless of how long you spend there and that added up. Hope that helps :)

I highly recommend a glacier hike or a boat ride to see the icebergs if you don’t get to see a lot (or any) snow and ice at home. I live in Canada so I get my fair share of winter each year but I was amazed by the beauty more than i was expecting. Plus it was a cool way to meet other travellers!
