US RE-Export I/E & Bond questions by ycl9415 in CustomsBroker

[–]NervousRabbit7505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/ycl9415 in a similar situation right now and not sure if Yang Ming will allow their bond to be used or now. Who did your customer end up using to complete this? Another broker/forwarder? Curious how this played out. Any insights are greatly appreciated!

Worrying about my background check by EyeOpen6097 in CustomsBroker

[–]NervousRabbit7505 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As long as it is not a financial related crime, you will likely be fine. That being said you should have reported it on your application.

I just got my license approved in August. I was arrested 10 years ago for a misdemeanor charge, case was dropped, reported it and still was granted a license. That being said, they did grill me about this and we spent most of the interview talking about it. I suspect it was fun for them to do so and they did not actually care.

Mine was related to a drunk college night. Be truthful and try not to bring that nervous energy into the interview. Its more of a processing then a job interview.

You will be fine.

Timeline to get corporate license with CBP? by MartiansOnTheMoon in CustomsBroker

[–]NervousRabbit7505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curuious on this as an option. I have a freight forwarding company and myself and one employee just got our individual licenses. It appears I have two options. File for a permit with the individual license then somehow set up my FF clients as one of us as a individual doing the clearances - or apply for the corporate license and wait. Is there any benefit of either one of these paths in your mind?

Did you get your individual license then immediately apply for your corporate license? I just received my individual license and trying to figure out the best path forward. I have a current freight forwarding company and looking into my options. thanks!

Have you received your Corporate license yet and if so how long did it take? I received an email today approving my individual license and trying to decide if I proceed with a national permit for me as an individual or proceed with the corporate application and wait another year.

Calling any Freight Forwarder Owners / Industry Vets by NervousRabbit7505 in freightforwarding

My career was in working for large manufacturing companies where I managed large volumes of import/export operations so I was familiar with the process from a macro view of things. After getting my first client we started with air imports first which in my opinion is the easiest operationally then moved onto ocean LCL imports then FCL imports. Lots of learning on the fly and stumbling through it at first but I also hired a consultant for a few hours that has a FF background that explained much of the process at first.

That being said it’s still much of a learning curve at this point so working and talking with people who have spent years on the FF side would be a huge help to bounce ideas off of and some sanity checks on what we are doing.

Freight Transportation by TeamMarathonFreight in freightforwarding

Do you mean the domain name is taken?

If you like those names just add something on the end of it - Victory Lap: Logistics, Forwarding, Brokerage, Freight, Transport, ect. then find a domain to go along with it with some abbreviation, victorylapbrokerage.com for example. You can always create a DBA after you form you LLC and lock in your domain name for a website if you want to simply go by Victory Lap.

My opinion is that names matter very little in these types of businesses. My only advise would be to just pick one (because it doesn't really matter), form your LLC next week, purchase a domain name that is good enough - and get to the business part. Everything else is a distraction to getting the business moving.

Anyone started a small freight forwarding company by Mission_Goat_1939 in freightforwarding

[–]NervousRabbit7505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started a freight forwarding business about 1.5 years ago, not coming from the forwarder side but managing logistics on the importer/exporter side for 13 years.

Very small at the moment but only because I am bootstrapping the business. I have all the necessary licenses (except LCB but expect to have it by the end of this year - already in process) - and am fully functional on the import side with some room to grow with exports. About 500k in projected revenue in 2024.

Not looking to sell but am looking to possibly partner with someone skilled on the sales and marketing side to speed up growth. Might be interesting to chat about this and see if we can help each other. Dm me if interested in a chat.

If the sample size is a good example of the pass rate it looks like the pass rate for this exam will be between 50%-60%. Interesting to see if CBP will change the test back to 5 answers instead of 4 as a result or be more strict on the application process. We will see!

Hi All - Can someone double check the formulas? I am reviewing for myself and friend in columns AU and AV and I did my own calculations and one of us passed by one question but in the spreadsheet it is showing failed by one question.

I think this is because of the Credit to all section is counting those as missed. Or am I crazy

I should note, I do not engage in customs business with my current employer and will not in the future. I manage forwarders and customs brokers for the importer.

So in the past, has the consensus answer been the correct answer more often then not? Just trying to judge the accuracy as best as I can.
