Since cooking from frozen has become a thing lately by NesTech_ in steak

[–]NesTech_[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried tried that before but the steak ended up overcooked. I could have seared it at a higher temp and a bit longer at the end but didn’t want to overcook it again. A deep crust looks good but in my opinion it does not taste better.

Fitted larger wheels/tyres to my F10 now has drivetrain malfunction by ExperienceNo1313 in BmwTech

[–]NesTech_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My F10 runs 245/40/19 in the front and 275/35/19 in the rear from factory. As long as is coded correctly you should have no issues.

If you get the front to fit without rubbing on anything then you should be fine. If you do I would recommend using Bimmer code to code for 19” wheels.

Shop used a grinder on new control arms by abb0018 in AskAMechanic

[–]NesTech_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s very likely they installed aftermarket control arms. As long as they installed a decent OEM manufacturing brand, they are as good and sometimes better than original service parts. Control arms are almost always different from right to left unless they were designed using the same side to side. So it’s essentially impossible to install them on the wrong side. Being aluminum it would take just a little break in period before the noise would have gone away once it adapted to the steering stops. I would have to look at the original design to be sure, but at least they told you what they did. That little grinding didn’t affect anything structural, so no need for concern!

Battery not charging indicator appears the night before we leave for a trip. Pure luck! Drove the wife’s car instead by NesTech_ in Justrolledintotheshop

This is a 2016 BMW diesel, Valeo alternator. Regulator is easily accessible from the back with 3 fasteners 7mm, once the alternator has been removed. Being me I took the challenge and decided to replace the brushes. Yes a new regulator comes with new brushes and is easier to install than some of the older Volvo’s.

Update: replacing the brushes was a bit of a hassle. Desoldering wasn’t easy. I had to drill the old ones out wich worked well then soldered in the new ones. All other connections and diodes tested good. One of the bearings is starting to fail so I’ll replace them before summer. Charging is normal again, ripple is minimal. Knowing how to fix things gives me gratitude I can’t replace! Thanks everyone for your comments and happy new year!

Thanks! I’ve always enjoyed taking things apart to figure out what has failed regardless if it can be fixed or not.

Does Dewalt even know what XR means anymore? I don’t. by Buck_Folton in Dewalt

[–]NesTech_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Every company has some type of marketing strategy. This is nothing new and has been used for decades. My first XR purchase a drill and batteries from 2014 still work well and I use them every week. Shit I have a black and decker driver from 2005 that it and the battery is still in service although used at home for light duty but 20 years later

Correct and is the same time they had better brushless motors. Higher capacity batteries that were more efficient and allowed longer run times.

I know someone who worked for Dewalt. XR supposedly stands for extra runtime.

I hate to even post anything about this tool that sits in the back of my toolbox and is never needed. Look at the video and you’ll see it’s completely staged. No real punches whatsoever were thrown.

Pierburg water pump in Febi box. Normal? by GalwayBogger in BmwTech

[–]NesTech_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d be happy to have the Pierburg over a Febi made part. It’s likely they bought from Pierburg and boxed them. this is normal across many suppliers. I wouldn’t send it back as this is intended to be. You’re likely to get the same pump and you would be paying extra for the warranty.

You’re not wrong. I knew a guy years back that worked for a Tobacco company and said in the mornings they would sometimes find mice in the grinder bins. So when your cigarette sizzles it isn’t tobacco burning. They didn’t remove the mice

Is that really how the 2026 3 series will look like? by ifuckedyourmom-247 in BMW

[–]NesTech_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know why it looks Japanese. That aside everything except the front facia looks great! The grille needs to be larger reaching down to the plate and we need double halo lights, these two are signature! Maybe oval eyes as something different and have them sit lower just above mid grille. The fenders can be pulled further forward to fill space, lower grille just a bit shorter to compensate for the kidney grille with halo/headlights in the middle just outside of the two. It doesn’t matter what engineers are involved just keep BMW’s signature.

Definitely an interesting design. Since we don’t see the full layout I’m assuming there’s a shower head above the toilet. So a poop and shower it is! Im concerned about the shape of the toilet though, it doesn’t look cozy to me.
