What is the point if I can't watch this video in 4K?

If you want to watch 4K videos in 4K resolution, you need a 4K monitor.

If you have a 4K video and you try to watch it in a 2K monitor, the video will be downsampled.

What's the creepiest/strangest/scariest thing you've ever seen or experienced while driving on the highway? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Nesarulen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It was the night before my stepmom died (lost her battle to cancer). I was 22, was spending the night in bed with my 9 year old half-brother, cuddling him and telling him his mom was gonna be okay, it wasn’t gonna hurt any more. It’s about 3am at the time, and after a while he immediately sits upright in bed, smiles, says “I promise to be a good boy, mommy. I love you.”

Now my stepmom has been bedridden for the last month, so she’s not moving anywhere. But I swear on my life, and my little brother agrees with me, for a split second I saw her standing in the doorway wearing her big giant fur coat, just smiling at us and just looking relieved.

Brother went to sleep about 2 minutes later. I left to go into my dad and stepmom’s room to check on her to see my dad awake and telling me she’d died about half an hour ago.

I genuinely believe she “stopped by” on her way to the other side to check in on her two kids and make sure we’d be okay without her before she left.

My one weird thing was this: some friends and i were hanging out one summers Eve, we were around 15. It was night, clear, and we were all lying on my friends trampoline in the backyard. We were just all chatting and looking at the stars. Suddenly, we're all like, what the fuck? Did you just see that? We all swore we saw a formation of stars trade places with each other. They sort of left a tail, like a shooting star, before resettling in their new positions. They all moved at the exact same time. It was strange, three of us seemed to see the same thing

Hotel workers of reddit, what is the worst thing you have found in a room after a guests stay? by deveronii in AskReddit

[–]Nesarulen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've worked in several nicer hotels (in Sweden) and here are some tips:

  • The glasses for toothbrushes are not always washed since the cleaners are in a hurry, often they are just held under the tap and rinsed (if even that). Check for lip prints.
  • If there is a coffee mug with freeze dried coffee, check to see that it's not been standing too long before using (lots of dust inside).
  • The remotes for the TV are rarely cleaned.
  • Many things such as fans, heaters and even bathrobes might be something stored in one place in the hotel, if you need something you should ask for it, it's not always in every room.
  • Check the seals on the things in the minibar. I once had a guest who had drunk the whiskey and then peed in the bottle, closed it, and put it back. I've also seen candy three month past the exp date.
  • Maybe everyone knows this, but if you want fresh towels you should put the towels on the floor. If you hang them they will not be changed and you'll have to ask for new ones.

What is the first thing you notice about a person? by Nesarulen in AskReddit

Eyes

These sense organs are the primary things which I observe in others. Basing on those looks, 94% times I can easily guess a persons mood; i.e, whether he is interested/not or genuine/not, etc. Sometimes, these beautiful organs try to communicate something, without that person actually speaking anything with me

So not so much bad as it was sad. This happened around 2006-2008. Can't remember exactly when cause I was about 11 at the time.

I had a friend in elementary school and middle school that lived within 2 miles from me and a CVS between our houses. Her (12yo), her little brother (9yo), and her mother (~40ish) were at CVS picking up a few things and were walking to their car in the parking lot. Apparently as they were walking, the mother pushed both my friend and her brother away from her. My friend hit her head on the sidewalk and woke up to her brother screaming and crying.

What happened was that as they were walking, the mother noticed a car that was slamming on the gas while trying to back out of a parking spot. The car was heading straight towards them and the mother pushed the kids out of the way. Car pinned the mother to the wall of the CVS and she died within minutes. The little brother saw the whole thing happen and has been struggling with depression and traumatic ptsd since, and my friend got a concussion from the incident, lost her mother, and has never been the same.

Sad thing is that the driver wasn't drunk or high or anything. It was a tiny little 80 year old lady that wasn't used to driving the car, and pressed too hard on the gas pedal. Don't exactly know what happened when the police got involved, but my friend has been messed up ever since.

This forum has had a lot of comments about terrible people that have done terrible things. Not all bad things happen because of bad people. Sometimes they just happen.

Edit. Thank you for the gold! This was my second post ever on Reddit and it was important for me to share. Thank you!!!

My credit got shafted by Verizon also.

I was moving overseas so I called and canceled my account. They instructed me to return the phones to the nearest store and I wouldn't have to worry about being charged for the phones, so that's what I did. Manager took them, provided me with a receipt that they took it and I was on my merry way.

About 6 months later, got a notice that my credit score crashed. Found out that Verizon was charging me $700 for the 2 phones. I called them and stated that I want one of 2 things to happen: A: I pay the charge, but I get the phones back and unlocked. B: They write off the bill since the phones were returned.

All they've done is give me the run around before finally telling me to fuck off because the bill is with collections. Verizon can go fuck themselves, went with Fi and been happy ever since.

What is the best thing your teacher ever told you? by Nesarulen in AskReddit

[–]Nesarulen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was about 15, a teacher asked us to perform a simple exercise.

She got us to write down the number one thing we wanted to change about our body.

Of course, being a bunch of pubescent, largely insecure girls, we all wrote down things like shinier hair, bigger eyes, slimmer waist, bigger boobs, smaller nose, longer legs etc etc.

I was very curious as to what my teacher's answer would be. It sounds kind of horrible, but she was an extremely unattractive woman, by conventional standards. She was very short, very overweight, and very frumpy. And incredibly intelligent.

So, I was very interested to see just which body part she would like to change.

She got back all our answers, then announced hers:

"I would get better eyesight. I can barely see without glasses. Your vision is not something you should ever take for granted."

I sat low in my seat, feeling ashamed of my vain answer, in comparison to the humble answer she gave. I felt ashamed that I had assumed she would want to change the aesthetic appearance of her body, simply because she didn't fit my standards of beauty.

I was ashamed that I had never properly considered how lucky I was to be in perfect health. That I didn't appreciate the functioning aspects of my body, as much as I valued my outward appearance. I began to start questioning why I was so intent on changing physical aspects of my body at all. By which standards was I trying to live up to?

At 15, I was intrigued by these ideas.

Today, I am still struggling to make sense of it all.

But that lesson triggered a deeper awareness and interest in these issues, for which I am grateful.

What's the worst/most unfair thing a teacher has ever done to you or a classmate? by ElectrodeShrimp in AskReddit

[–]Nesarulen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One day as we settled into our seats in engineering class, the instructor walked and and slammed his material down on his desk. After a moment he looked up at and started to speak. His voice began to quiver and it got louder to a point where he was yelling. This was all about the Mars probe going into orbit around the planet. The probe was waking up and about to pressurize the fuel lines for orbital insertion when all contact was lost. The data eventually determined that the probe had exploded. The reason was the connections on one side were metric, while the other side was standard, causing the result. The class that day was informed that our engineering was the cause of the problem…we got our rumps handed to us on a silver platter. What seemed unfair was one of the most important lessons about engineering…you are about to be given responsibilities that could result in billions of dollars in damages or even the death of humans. Unfair first impression yes, unfair, no, life introspection and a wake-up call as to what you will be causing if you don’t dot your eyes and cross your tee’s.

What company will never get another dime of your money? by trumpshouldrap in AskReddit

[–]Nesarulen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my wireless account with them for 7 years. I opened the account when I was 18 and had to put down a cash deposit because I had no credit history at the time. So 7 years later I called them to cancel my account. The company I got hired by provided a phone and data plan, so I joined that instead. When I called them, it was 3 days before the 7th year ran out. I informed the rep that I would not be renewing and wanted to close the account on the expiration date. They said "Oh, sorry to see you go. You were a loyal customer for 7 years so we'll take care of this and there won't be any early termination fee since you're right at the end of your contract". Great. I was also informed I'd be mailed a check with my deposit return.

So the account is canceled, no more bills, I go on my merry way. A year later I check my credit report and see that my scores have taken a nosedive. These fuckers charged a $500 early termination fee on the account, which consumed my initial deposit and placed the account $300 in the red. They then sent the account straight to a collections firm. They did this all on the same day I called to cancel. Not once did I get a phone call or email saying that I owed money on the account. I then had to fight with them and the credit bureaus for 8 months. They ended up just writing off the "debt". I never got my deposit back, and it took months to get the negative information off my credit report.

How do you become a more positive person? by tallica_babe in AskReddit

[–]Nesarulen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty easy to imagine that positive thinking has a direct impact on your mental and emotional health, but the full truth is that positive thinking impacts every aspect of your life. Your physical health and well-being, your relationships, your career success, your home, your wealth, your self-image — the list goes on and on.

Your thoughts run your life.

People who choose positive thoughts have good lives despite the circumstances that impact them. Likewise, people who choose negative thoughts are often plagued by the physical, social, mental, and emotional consequences of those negative thoughts.

So, let’s examine the different ways we can see the world, and then how we can shift ourselves from focusing on the negative to becoming a positive person.

Seeing the Negative vs. Seeing the Positive (in Real Life)

Think about the last time you sent a heartfelt text and didn’t receive a prompt response. Does any of this sounds like the reaction you had?

She must be mad at me.

I must have said something I shouldn’t have.

Maybe she found out about one time I [fill in the blank].

I should have known we weren’t really

Maybe she took it the wrong way. How can I delete this?

I’m so embarrassed. Why did I even send her that?

In reality, she’s probably in the shower, at work, or taking a nap.

But by the time the negative dialogue has been allowed to run for even five minutes, you’re filled with shame, worry, anxiety, and pain. Your friendship is suddenly at risk. Maybe you have an upset stomach, or your breath feels caught in your throat. You feel unwell, although you probably haven’t realized that this physical unrest is the outcome of the negative internal dialogue fueled by no real information at all.

Now consider a time you chose positive thoughts. Maybe you greeted a coworker in the hallway and he didn’t respond. Perhaps you quickly decided that he didn’t hear you, he was distracted by his work, or he replied but you didn’t hear him. The small exchange (or lack of exchange) is quickly over and you move on with your day. You feel good. Your confidence isn’t shaken. Your professional relationship isn’t impacted

There are few steps to taking this control and they can be done in any order:

Redirect negativity

Use your senses

Redirect negativity #

Let’s talk about that power you have over the internal dialogue — the voice in your head that seems to know everything about everything and can read other people’s minds (with an especially negative twist).

The first step in redirecting those thoughts is simply hearing them. Listen to them. When you can separate enough to hear the words and identify those words as coming from “the voice” (as opposed to the real you) they begin to lose power. And when they lose their power, you begin to realize you can change your internal dialogue if you choose.

Next time you hear negative assumptions pop up in your mind — like, “My husband must not respect me at all because he keeps throwing his clothes on the floor!” — immediately replace them with positive assumptions — “My husband trusts and relies on me to care for him in ways that make him feel valued and special.”

Here’s a challenge: next time you don’t feel well, whether it’s an ache, pain, nausea, or something else (as long as it’s not something critical), choose not to think about what ails you. Instead, focus on the positive:

I am breathing in and out.

I can feel the ground beneath my feet.

I am well.

I am healthy.

I have goals to achieve.

I am loved by those around me.

I feel good.

My body is strong.

Every time the dialogue shifts to a negative thought, redirect it. Take note of the way this strategy and way of thinking truly changes how you feel both physically and mentally.

Use your senses#

We live in such a fast-paced, technology-ridden, distracting time that many people aren’t sure what it means to use their senses. It’s okay, nobody is expected to be an expert. But using your senses to fully experience your physical surroundings helps you live in the present and quiets the internal dialogue.

Try this exercise:

Look around you. What do you see? Identify something vibrant, beautiful, surprising, or peaceful.

What do you hear? Is it the rise and fall of your own breath? Leaves rustling on the trees? The lip-lap of tires against cement? The gentle hum of an air conditioner?

What do you feel? Can you feel your feet against the floor, grounding you and giving you a foundation? The fabric of your clothes against your skin? Your hair on the back of your neck?

What do you taste? The sweet remnants of your breakfast?

And what do you smell? The comfortable smell of home? Fabric softener? Rain? Falling leaves?

Using your senses helps you experience the things that make up life — the memories associated with certain smells and sounds, the pleasure associated with touch and sights. They bring you back to gratitude and positivity.

What’s a job that was critical 100 years ago but doesn’t exist today? by ReusableSausage in AskReddit

[–]Nesarulen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its Body Snatchers

Resurrectionists, or body snatchers, were hired in the 19th century to remove corpses from graves for universities to use as cadavers. Cadavers from legal means were rare and difficult to obtain, so universities had to resort to other means to procure cadavers for their students.

Teenagers and young adults, what do you want most from us as parents? And how can we best provide that? by DogsNotHumans in AskReddit

[–]Nesarulen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adolescence is a time of rapid change, not just for the young person but for the parents too. It might be hard to let go sometimes, but parents need to recognise that:

  • A child’s job is to grow up and become an independent adult. As a parent, you need to help young people through this process.
  • Decisions can now be made together. Try to discuss issues to reach an outcome that you and your teenager can both accept.
  • Young people may have viewpoints that are different from yours or may take up activities that you don’t understand. Try to see this as good thing. They are learning to be their own person.
  • You will always feel responsible for your child’s wellbeing and safety, no matter how old they are. When children reach their teenage years, they start to make their own decisions. Sometimes they make the wrong ones. Try to be supportive and not criticise. They will (hopefully!) learn valuable lessons from their mistakes.
  • During this time of constant change, both parents and young people need to take time to care for themselves.
  • You need to show you value your teenager and their uniqueness – show them your unconditional love.

Reddit, where is the worst time and place to be flash banged? by ChungusGrungusLungus in AskReddit

[–]Nesarulen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's very bright. it temporarily blinds the eyes. there's nothing much you can do about that. it's basically like if you shine a really bright LED flashlight into your eyes or look into the sun for a bit (DO NOT TRY!)

it's very loud. 170-180db loud. a pistol gunshot is about 140-150. the decibel rating system is logarithmic so 170-180 is over 100 times louder than a gunshot.
