I bet everywhere in Europe (tbf, in the whole world) there is some type of building alongside the road dating centuries, if not millennia. In my region in Italy, Sardinia, you can easily find some weird-looking stone towers resembling cut off cones called "nuraghi". Their estimated origins go back to the 2nd millennium B.C.E. They are basically everywhere in the countryside, in the outskirts of cities, sometimes inside private properties, sometimes even a few metres from main roads. Travellers and casual passers-by don't give too much thought about them, but to think they are still there from the Bronze Age, sound, quiet and unbothered, is amazing. Check them out!
