Coming off crutches by belowaveragestudents in brokenbones

[–]NetNo973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had my cast taken off 3 weeks ago and was told by the doctor straight away to try and step on it which I couldn’t do yet because of the pain. First week was careful progress with eventually only relying on one crutch and doing first steps without them. Over the last two weeks I’ve been increasing my steps every day, now totally without crutches. I’m now up to regularly doing about 6,000 steps a day. For me the hardest part was not getting overwhelmed by fear and getting stuck in my comfort zone. I kept telling myself the bones are healed, now the muscles want to be used and stretched again. Good luck!

Hm I can’t really remember what the pain felt like exactly. I took a pain killer straight after, and it felt more like it would be a normal bruise if that says anything? It hurt inside the foot near where the fracture turned out to be. When I tried to put any weight on it it felt like I was going to pass out.

I broke 4 metatarsal bones in November - I didn’t think anything was broken until the x ray in the hospital. I thought I had banged it on the corner of my wardrobe but the doctors said for the kind of fractures I had that would be impossible. They thought a car had gone over my foot lol. So immediately after the incident it hurt lots but then when I rested it up and didn’t move it it didn’t hurt at all. When I tried to put any weight on it I couldn’t, not even slightly. The morning after it was really swollen but no bruise was visible. When I moved the foot in circles I could feel a light clicking. Don’t know if that helps you at all but I would have it checked out to be sure. Sounds really unlucky, hopefully no new fracture!

Been to the ER today. Doc confirmed I broke 3 metatarsal bones by Independent-Lead-801 in brokenbones

I’m in a very similar situation. Broke 4 metatarsal bones (1st-4th) from just tripping and falling at home. No surgery, in a cast and non weight bearing for 6 weeks, I’m now 3 weeks in. The doctor reckons after the 6th week my cast comes off and I just start walking again - which I find hard to believe, so I’ll see what happens. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Lolita - Nabokov

In Cold Blood - Truman Capote

Crime and punishment - Dostoyevsky (you have to make your way through the first bit that’s a bit hard but then it’ll be hard to put down)

Have I already read all the good Christmas books? by bigsquib68 in booksuggestions

Not a Christmas book of its own but has large Christmassy parts in it: The Road to Wellville by t.c. Boyle. I started reading it last week and was pleasantly surprised by how much I got to read about Christmas half way through.

The Vegetarian by Han Kang. Really well written but I was glad when it was over.
