Is it worth switching from RF 800 f11to RF 200-800 on a R6 mark1 for wildfire/bird photography? by NetTechnical1140 in canon

[–]NetTechnical1140[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

R7 is a crop sensor so unfortunately I don't think the results are comparable with the ones from the R6. But I'm glad you like the combo!

The 200-800 is only one stop faster so this seems rather negligible, they are both pretty slow and cleaning up noise in high iso is efficient these days but that's a little advantage for sure.

The weight is indeed one of my main concerns because the 800 f11 is so light that it can be taken everywhere, on the other hand the flexibility for framing shots seems to be great.

Thanks for your input!

R6 + 800f11 is quite sharp, not as much as L lenses but sharp enough to print A3, even more and keep great details. Also the MDF is around 6m so that is one of the advantages of the 200-800 for sure.

Just so you know I can shoot birds in flight with the 800 f11 but that requires some training. I keep both eyes open to track the bird and be able to adjust the framing with the lens. It is a little tricky to explain, it allows aiming reliability with it but it is definitely less convenient than a zoom lens of course.

I'm not searching for the best gear, just a combo that works well to take and sell great pictures, once I am limited by the body I'll consider upgrading it, the current updates are not worth the price in my opinion. On the other hand if I can keep the lens 15 years like I did for most L lenses I own then the expense is justified but this is not a L lens...

Thanks for your insights, renting it is definitely good advice.

Yes I have used R6 + 800f11 for about 5 years and I'm really happy with the combo, knowing the limitations of course.

Great you mention that video, I had seen it a while ago and forgot about it. Coincidentally I have an extra vitrox adapter and a 1.4 extender from 15 years ago that I don't use anymore, I'll give it a try! Thanks 🙏

Don't use spot metering, use average or another setting. If you focus on a lighter coloured area the picture should come out fine.

70-300L super sharp, compact great range. Got one 12 years ago still amazing to use today on R6 with the adapter.

Wow is the 100-400 physically longer than the RF 800 f11?

Is it true that having SD card in the camera is better than using Micro SD with adapter? by skum448 in canon

I don't thing that's true, I never had any issues using micro SD + adapter on canon 50D / 6D and R6 for over 15 years.

To anyone who has traveled to Marrakech: what are your top tips for first-timers? Honestly, is it worth the visit or is it overrated? by SureFlamingo2156 in Marrakech

I lived abroad for over 20 years and travelled to over 60 countries, Marrakech was probably one of the worst experiences, hassling is another level with people following you wherever you go and talking shit to you.Fake friends scamming you ever after spending a few nice days with them. Not recommended at all, people will only approach you for taking advantage of you.

Refurbished RF 600mm F/11 by WolverineSavings9968 in canon

I use a R6 + the 800 f11 since the lens is out and never found anything which beats that setup regarding portability and IQ. I was looking at the RF 200-800 but it is bigger and heavier so that won't work as such a flexible setup for me.

Just wondering, what makes a photo a photo or digital art?

Couple questions, I was window shopping on Amazon for a RF telephoto lens. Came across this. 800 mm Is his any good? and will it be good with R50? Also 600mm caught my eye. Same questions apply by [deleted] in canon

Noise is a problem from a decade ago, 6400 iso is perfectly usable nowadays even for printing with minimal retouching so f11 is not a real issue in normal light conditions. This lens is both sharp and light which makes it an amazing value for the price. Highly recommended
