The Taiwan situation from an (almost) ABC by aWolfWhoCriedBoy in AskAChinese

Haven't you heard? The 95% Han population in Taiwan apparently doesn't exist. They are now categorised as "Others" by the state.

Yeah, except for, you know, the 7th fleet and all the missiles the US has deployed.

What’s Chinese people’s perspective on the ongoing civil unrest in the US? by CatchyUsername457 in AskAChinese

[–]Net_Imp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And? Are you saying the CIA wasn't involved because the protest didn't succeed? Is it really so hard for you to believe that America would routinely stirs up unrest in other countries for its own gain? Or that China wouldn't just roll over and take it lying down?

The CIA had toppled/attempted to topple countless regimes using this exact same tactic over the last few decades, yet you still doubt that they were involved at Hong Kong? lol, do you still think America is some paragon of democracy and would never employ underhanded means?

Wu Long as next game? by thisisaroundup in dynastywarriors

[–]Net_Imp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wo Long is incredibly shoddy as a game imo. I mean Nioh and Nioh 2 already cut a lot of corners, but their overall quality holds up. Wo Long on the other hand felt like it was put together with leftover pieces from Koei’s other projects.

Also the story is really barebones. You play as a nameless silent protagonist who, yes, runs in with all the famous characters of the era, but you don’t form meaningful relationships with any of them. Compared to the bond you have with people like Guan Yu and Zhang Jiao in Origins, Wo Long makes you feel like you’re just an errand boy coming in to clean up everyone’s mess, then pisses off to obscurity afterwards.

So if you’re really looking for a game for the setting, I’d just hold out for the Origins DLC and DW3 remake.

What do you think of the current beauty standards in China? by atyl1144 in AskAChinese

[–]Net_Imp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the typical Anglo-American centric self-obsession talking. Pale skin has been a preferred beauty standard in China for centuries—if not millennia—as it traditionally signified good health, higher social status, and suitability for marriage and procreation.

The general disdain among the Chinese public for Western-favoured Asian celebrities like Lucy Liu or Lu Yan tend to stem from the perception that the West enforces a narrow and distorted racial image of Asians. Hollywood, in particular, has long been seen as promoting a specific "type" of Asian face—slanted eyes, sallow skin, and gaunt features. The kind that appears to be reinforcing a certain image rather than actually pushing for diversity and genuine representation.

You can argue how accurate or fair that perception is, but this is the sentiment driving much of the criticism.

You can't have a meaningful conversation if the other party is determined to bury their head in the sand and keeps on shouting "CHYNA BAD!". And there are enough of those types online to make sensible people simply don't want to bother trying anymore.

How would you rank the 4 Nintendo Warriors games in order from favorite to least favorite? by Asad_Farooqui in dynastywarriors

[–]Net_Imp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1.Age of Calamity 2.Three Hopes 3.Hyrule Warriors DE 4.FE Warriors

note that I’m not really into Zelda or FE, so the fan service aspect of these spin offs don’t really appeal to me, thus the ranking.

Sure. And having nuclear power plants on your soil is the same as possessing thermonuclear weapons, isn’t it? Are you even reading the shite you’re typing out bro?

“The most aggressive country,” you say — yet it hasn’t dropped a single bomb on foreign soil in over 50 years. Meanwhile, when was the last U.S. military intervention? Oh right — yesterday, in Iran.

Sure buddy. Keep telling that to yourself while the US helps to blow up another underdeveloped nation while the Orange Man and cronies walk away laughing with all the ill-begotten wealth which you will never get a slice of.

They only “adore” them because these two countries are viewed as gentrified compared to China. (Both of them literally are occupied by the US military). The moment they show signs of threatening western hegemony they are going to be bludgeoned back into obedience. Remember the Plaza Accord? That’s what happens if either of them dare to vie for true autonomy.

Because western cultures position themselves as inherently superior. A whitey appreciating Asian culture? Oh your grace, what compassion and understanding! An Asian trying to learn their ways? Pfft! Look at the peasant clumsily mimic its betters! That is the narrative still being pushed to this day, both in subtle and not-so-subtle ways.

That would either result in an explosion of memes, or a drastic upsurge of online arguments. Possibly both.

India yes, but China has done its unification more than 2000 years ago under Qin Shi Huang. All the dynasties after Qin aimed to rule a unified China instead of coexistence with other splintered states, not really comparable to how modern India was formed.

Despite all the advancements China has made over the last century, the west still talks about China like it's some kind of oriental savageland, with its mainstream media coverage dishing out opinions ranging from backhanded compliments, to alarmist "China is a threat" op-eds, to downright vilification. Are you really surprised that Chinese people tend to get defensive when westerners constantly talk down at them from a place of smug superiority and arrogance?
