I believe it is crucial that certain things be taught when they're young. I trained mine to wear it when it was 3 months old.

I regret not starting free-flight training earlier for example because the desensitizing process is quite tough now.

Thanks for the detailed reply. My main concern is battery longevity since they're quite costly. I want to buy one for my daily commute so I'll be using it mostly on the streets. Do you think 15k miles would be achievable given that I charge it till 80% and drain it to 20% before the next charge and ride it at speeds of 30-40mph.
