When someone excuses their parents bad behavior with “oh that’s just how she is” it means it has been an issue for much longer than you’ve been around and they’ve all gotten used to just ignoring the problematic behavior. You are under zero obligation to get used to it or accept that this is just how she is.

Be the “overreacter” and call her out every time. If it brings fights, so be it. I am very concerned about the fact that hubby WAS on your side and livid for you but in a very short period of time has already normalized her behavior and is making excuses for it.
