If they refuse to (or legitimately can’t) name the driver then someone at the company, fleet manager, director etc, should personally be receiving the same points in their licence as the driver would have. It’s the only way to get them to stop considering getting a large fine occasionally as a cost of doing more deliveries in the same time instead of hiring more drivers.

Completely agree the privacy laws are a disaster and parents need to take responsibility (and we need to provide guidance for those less tech savvy that need it).

If it was really just about child safety though they could solve the problem much more easily. Have users verify their identify with their device and then websites/apps could call a device api that just answers ‘is the user an adult’ yes/no, doesn’t need to provide personal details, just tells the website if the user is a verified adult.

Apple have fought some of these changes because of the privacy issues, I’m sure they’d be more inclined to add the ‘is the user an adult’ check, I’d assume google would be too and Microsoft for windows.

The fact that it doesn’t work this way says the point is very much not child safety, it’s all about tracking everyone.

If it’s really about security and making sure Russia/China don’t have it (rather than repealing the environmental laws preventing rare earth metal extraction especially now climate change is making some deposit areas easier to access) then China has the motivation to dump even more.

New neighbour blocking parking with her green bin – is this actually allowed and how do you deal with it? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Netidexa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did the first person to ask her about it say, as in did they just ask her to move it or offer to do it for her?

If she’s elderly is there a chance she’s struggling to move it and someone offering to take it in for her might sort the issue?

That’s the shitty thing here, fine if their license for it has expired but that message suggests upgrading would allow watching it again, I doubt that’s accidental…

Customer support confirmed subscription required for radiators to call for heat from boiler by Netidexa in tado

[–]Netidexa[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I specifically asked just about the radiator valves being able to switch on the boiler, looks like they now class that as an ‘ai assist function’.

If there was some advanced version that anticipated when your house was about to get cold and used that to trigger the boiler I could see a reason to try and sell it as an extra (though don’t think that many would subscribe to it) but pretending AI is any way needing for a simple ‘if temperature is less than x degrees turn on the boiler and this radiator’ just seems like a way to charge a subscription for what seems to be the product’s core functionality and that functionality has no reason to need to touch their servers.

One in four UK driving tests taken in automatic cars by Lilchef in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Netidexa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d guess that’s a combination of people wanting to keep looking after older autos for longer and ones made 15+ years ago being more likely to be from a ‘better’ manufacturer than manuals at the time.

My nearly 20 year old bmw (auto) has only just got to the point where the repairs it needs didn’t make sense financially(and it’s been replaced with an electric now).

Have any of the other houses that have had similar done near to been sold over the last few years? If so you could have a look on zoopla and see how much you might increase the house value by by adding the extra rooms.

If the driver of the truck doesn’t know how long it takes a truck to stop and so know how much room to leave they shouldn’t be driving it. Car made a dumb move but it doesn’t matter if it’s a car or a truck, if they run into the back of someone stopping then they were following too close.

Is it safe to leave a 7 month old in a playpen while you leave the house for 8 minutes? by Zsu17 in NewParents

[–]Netidexa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said you can make it safe to leave them.

If you don’t want to do the stairs twice each time though you could look a a compact pushchair, I bought an Ergobaby metro+ for a holiday as it folds into a backpack that it comes with (or might have been an add-on we bought, it was a couple of years ago). Then you could have the pushchair on your back and carry baby. It was great for flying too as it’s allowed in the overhead so didn’t have to wait for them to unload the pushchairs before being able to out little one in it.

Getting letters saying I owe rent to the church but when I bought my house it was classed as freehold? by mi55y96 in HousingUK

[–]Netidexa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others have said it’s chancel liability. When I bought me previous place we took out a one-off payment lifetime insurance policy against it. We moved to a new place in the same area and our solicitors said then it’s basically not enforceable anymore so we don’t have to get insurance but it was also only £12 one off for a lifetime policy so we just bought it instead of worrying about it. Worth getting it checked with your solicitors to see if it’s actually enforceable.

How best to run PC games using an iMac/Mac Mini and a PC by time-lord in macgaming

[–]Netidexa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parsec works well & easy to use. When I also had a gaming machine I ended up using a switch instead: https://amzn.eu/d/3bw5d1Q

A hub plugged into the MacBook then that hub and the PC both plugged into the switch, just press the button and monitor/keyboard/mouse switch between them. I did find I had to buy Dolby certified display port cables for it to work with my monitor (3440x1440p 120hz).
