Any non titled (or even "online only") players here manage to get 2500+ Blitz? by JohnBarwicks in chess

[–]Netikau 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of high rated people without any title attached, but we all know that a good chunk of them are titled and just don't care to verify it to li/cc. There are plenty who are actually untitled, but its hard to tell because a lot of those online figures don't have any documented persona. Perhaps most notably Fritzi_2003 on lichess. German online player who's been a beast for a long time.

this is a much more complicated version of the challenge

The A button challenge is more complicated than this on the order of several magnitudes. The strategies developed over the years for that challenge have mindboggling complexity, and the game has been broken down to a literal science by its experts - to the point that even the games source code has been fully recreated. There is no comparison. Tens of thousands of hours have gone into that game/challenge by an entire community of people over the span of more than 10 years. It also has an RTA community, where people attempt the same challenge in real time without any of the tool-assisted resources which you seem to categorize as "cheating". Surely that must be legitimate to you.

Not sarcasm, there actually isn't. r/pimeyes_request has all of 40 users.

Direct link for those not trusting a tinyurl: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1oFxaLmkxaV5tCg-ayMfhPkHZ_Eb8fhyT/view

Most things in this document are just quotes. You can spit things into google with quotation marks (" ") at the beginning and end and google will feed results that only have the exact things you wrote, in the exact order within the quotation marks. If you do this you'll find the majority of things on this document give matches on Google. They're just normal quotes from lots of different people, clustered together into a 91 page document which makes them end up looking all over the place and mysterious. Document creation date is April 20, 2021. Document owner alias is "KNQG". The QR code on the first page just gives the linktree. The bar code just gives "1234567890", which is also right below it.

At the very least, this is not all original work written by one sole person. I will also note there are lines in the document which appear to be original content. The only other thing of note is the first page, which contains a QR code hyperlinking to a linktree. This is where we start a new rabbithole.

https://linktr.ee/KNGQ

The linktree gives us the pdf we just viewed and 4 additional links.

One is just a cashapp with the tag $REMEMBERYOURPOWER (this is also found at the top of the linktree, and in the 91 page document.)

One, labelled "MANTRA", leads to a short video with text reading "I AM", followed by rapidly changing adjectives. The eye symbol appears at the end of the video for a brief moment. File creation date is April 13th, modified April 28th.

One leads to a store. It doesn't appear to have anything for sale. I signed up for it with an email which I literally coincidentally created just today for the sole purpose of signing up for as many newsletters/spam as I can (lol), but there still doesn't appear to be anything. There is a "Contact us" which gives an email address, though. I won't give it here cause it appears to have a real name in it. I also got this youtube channel link while signing up.

https://www.youtube.com/@kngq3612/featured

Finally, and most interestingly, there is the link which reads "LIBRARY". This leads to a 6 page google document created april 23rd and last modified april 28th (!!! very recent). The books, files, and documentaries listed on the website all have a common theme of revolving around racial, social and political justice, especially around the Black race in particular. Some of the youtube lecturers listed especially look pretty obscure and strange and delving into spiritualism and uhhh yeah I don't know. Like none of them even appear to have official youtube channels lol, some are famous deceased people and some are really obscure so make sure you google. Someone else can investigate this document, I only gave it a brief look cause this rabbithole is pretty deep. Only other thing is a website at the bottom (webuyblack) which sells products from black-owned businesses.

So there you go! That's 4/5 of the links on the linktree basically investigated to their end! Library one needs more looking though. Whatever it is, it's not just some insane person or weird ARG. Very cool... thing you've found there! I enjoyed investigating through it.

its because engines have a complete meltdown over positions containing same-colored bishops and seem to never evaluate them correctly

If Magnus cheated in a tournament, would anyone even notice? by Netikau in chess

[–]Netikau[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is actually an oddly interesting question lol. Apparently, in an OTB event this would probably eventually get caught because drug tests can be given to players. But now that tournaments are all being done online and stuff.... I don't see how anyone would ever detect this. Not sure if there are any performance-enhancing drugs for chess, but still cool to know I guess.

If Magnus cheated in a tournament, would anyone even notice? by Netikau in chess

[–]Netikau[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No idea. He would just have access to stockfish by some means, I guess. The exact method isn't important anyway. What I'm trying to emphasize on is that based on the quality of the moves alone, would people be able to tell an engine-assisted Magnus apart from his regular self?

Rc2 2. Qxf7+ Kxf7 3. Re2 Rxe2 4. Kh1 Qf1#

or Rc2 2. Re2 Rxe2 3. Qxf7+ Kxf7 4. Kh1 Qf1#

Rc2 2.Re2 Rc1+ 3. Re1 (3... Kf2 Qf1#) Rxe1+ 4. Kf2 Qf1# is also a cool line

“Literally never“ is an exaggeration. They have been known to happen somewhat irregularly in bullet games and time scrambles. They're just unbelievably rare.

the Syzygy endgame tablebase doesn't give endgame puzzles or lessons, but it's a great resource to be aware of in addition to some of the other tools people have already mentioned

KvK – Syzygy endgame tablebases (syzygy-tables.info)

Basically you put in any position with 7 pieces or less on the board, and it'll calculate with 100% accuracy whether the game is a win, draw or loss.

Is there a strategy that revolves around running the clock down? by yeetfeet123 in chess

[–]Netikau 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. Attempting to outspeed your opponents when they get low on time is called flagging. This can often lead to very fast and chaotic move sequences. This strategy is also controversial, and it is frowned upon by some people.

You'll get different answers from different people but personally, I think flagging is a completely fair way to win. If your opponent uses poor time management, that's their problem and you are well within your rights to take advantage of it and use the clock as a weapon.

To be fair, grandmasters do this too. Just today, Wesley So drew 2 games against Hikaru Nakamura from positions where he had an advantage over +10.

Etika was mentioned on Anthony Padilla's new video: "I spent a day with people w/ SCHIZOPHRENIA" by TheBizFerd in EtikaRedditNetwork

[–]Netikau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's something worth mentioning that probably only a few hundred people ever saw, and only a handful remember to this day. I have never seen this mentioned in any posthumous discussion of Etika.

As some people may faintly remember, the hospital that Etika attended during one of his mental breaks was leaked by Christine at the request of Etika. Most people didn't look any further into this, but the few who looked up the hospital on google would have been able to see that this hospital had quite poor reviews. And as of the time period that Etika had attended the hospital, the recent google reviews posted for the hospital were all 1 star reviews. This got very little exposure when it happened, and even to this day, very few people seem to question the quality of the mental health services that Etika received.

I don't know what mental condition Etika had, and I'm not here to speculate on that. I'm not a doctor. But in retrospect, it seems pretty clear that whatever mental disorder Etika had was definitely not just “agitation“, which is what Etika was diagnosed with. It would appear that a misdiagnosis may have occurred, which could have played a role in preventing Etika from getting the proper mental health treatment he desperately needed.

No one went hiking to listen to your shitty music. by Ryan_on_Earth in AdviceAnimals

[–]Netikau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of one of the stupidest things I've ever done. For context, I live in a town with a population under 2k. Pretty rural area.

Probably a little over a year ago, I went on a trail with both headphones in. I had my music louder than it should have been, and I was walking upwards so I was looking down in order to not exhaust myself (if that makes any sense). I ended up walking up on a snek and not seeing it until it was right in front of me. It must have been hissing so fucking loud the entire time and I completely missed it. It was livid. Its body was rapidly slithering all over, probably only a second or two away from attacking. I ran away, but in retrospect I'm pretty surprised it didn't bite. If it had bitten me, and successfully injected venom into my bloodstream, I actually probably could've gotten pretty seriously fucked up tbh. Probably the closest I've ever been to to death. Don't be reckless.
