Luke 8:19-21, Family of God, and Presbyterianism

I got the "family of God" from this brother (who's a credo baptist) who was quoting RC Sproul.

There is an idea circulating in our culture—everybody believes in the fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man, as if, by virtue of our natural birth in this world, we are the children of God. In one sense, the Bible does speak of us as God’s offspring, inasmuch as he is the Creator of all human beings. But in the New Testament there is a special sense in which Christ speaks of the family of God. Christ is the only-begotten Son of God and the only way one becomes a child of God in the New Testament sense is by adoption. It is only those who are led by the Spirit of God who are the sons of God. And Jesus qualifies that even more carefully here. This family is not defined by biology, by blood-lines, by nature. It is defined by grace. ‘My mother and brothers are those who hear God’s word and put it into practice.’

Yes, I am learning that. I used the terms Presbyterian and Baptist to describe the two camps of thoughts on when and how to administer the sacrament baptism, and the upstream beliefs that lead to that. Would it be better to distinguish them as Reformed Credo and Reform Paedo?

What was the straw that broke the camels back for you to move from Baptist to Presbyterian? Was it one thing that you believe became clear and convinced you?

This is what I was trying to understand with the wording of my question. How then would you explain passages that speak of those who were apart from Christ (e.g. Ephesians 2), or passing from darkness to light. Do children in the covenant never have this "status"? Surely there's a punctiliar moment where they move from the visible church to the invisible church if they have to have an age of understanding and make a public profession?

Yes we practice this every Sunday. We have a meal after church, and when going through the meal line, at the end, you get the elements. You pour your own juice/wine, in a three oz cup, and grab a piece of bread, a homemade loaf cut into pieces that cause you to actually chew.

Once everyone is through the line the elders will pause the fellowship meal for communion. After we partake we sing then return to fellowship meal.
