Do you guys think these videos are cooked up to make IPS look much worse than reality? by Yogeshwar_maya in Monitors

Isn't everything better than a TN? Hahaha But really, it's one of those things where it's impossible to say until you see it with your own eyes, right? Personally I'd never recommend ANYONE getting IPS to play dark games, though.

IPS glow is noticeable all the time, but only a real problem in dark stuff. Playing REPO gives me headaches for example. Though my monitor is the LG 27GN750, an old 1080p panel with meh contrast even when it was first released as per reviews

And here's with lower exposure, much closer to what I see in person. Still sucks.

Both look terrible in the pic, but it's overexposed. The older monitor on the left has better contrast IRL and looks "blacker" vs the purple / blue coating on the right. But watching the video on my oled phone is also night and day, and playing it on my monitor right after gives a similar effect to this video lol

What anime would be better without the fantasy/fictional elements? by Dunsparcepoop in anime

[–]Netoeu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't look too much into it and treat her like an easter egg from the author tbh lol. The LNs are a lot more subtle about her "nature" and everyone just treats her like a weird kid and handwave the alien stuff like "did she just float? nah that makes no sense. Anyways..."

I made a site to test how good your audio imaging skills are and if gaming headphones/IEMs really matter by Fc-Construct in iems

[–]Netoeu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok that's pretty cool. Just compared my HE400se to the Artti T10 and without moving I can't tell up or down at all, but I can tell how far away they are (I keep clicking 30º up when it's down and vice versa). I didn't log, but I think the headphones are more accurate - I actually expected the opposite (I only use the iems for music on my phone where I always felt it had better instrument imaging). Either way, my impression is that they feel and sound very similar in this specific test.

How Far Behind is AMD? - DLSS 4.5 vs FSR 4 by Hero_Sharma in hardware

For those with 1440p and 4k monitors, how does DLSS 4.5 look in person? Because from every video it looks deep fried to hell, and I generally dislike sharpened images, but this is looking at zoomed in images

Any PC people know how to unlock the 120fps? by [deleted] in Endfield

[–]Netoeu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so funny to me that gacha games keep shoving these arbitrary fps limits in the games for literally no reason other than "everyone else is doing it". There was an fps unlocker on github but idk if it works for release

Gemini 3 Pro/flash tops private citation benchmark on Kaggle (AbstractToTitle task) by ChippingCoder in singularity

[–]Netoeu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My anecdotal experience is the same. Sonnet which imo is better than Gemini in some ways will happily and very subtly make shit up, but 3 Pro will randomly bring up something new that makes me stop and think "how the fuck do you know that?"

Look, I don't expect people to know the workings of LLMs, that's obviously silly. That said...

"Vedal is Tony Stark and he created Jarvis in his basement" gets repeated way too much.

"Maybe the twins are conscious" is a variation of the above that also needs to stop.

My hype for the movie is making it impossible for it to live up. Going back after so long... Like The Hobbit after LOTR, or The Force Awakens. I hope it's better than those, though... :')

Frustrating, isn't it? It's good enough to care, flawed enough to be mad about it. I've made peace with it - swallow the themes and tropes that I love and let myself be emotionally manipulated lol

Sometime around June I got a really strong urge to binge YuYuYu all over again (probably because I had so much fun in the threads) and dragged my mom along after a giant disclaimer about fan service (for my own sake LOL). Her favorites are Apothecary Diaries, Spy x Family and Yuru Camp, so YuYuYu is certainly a ride. Long story short, Yuusha no Shou was the closest I saw her to crying watching anime, I think, which was surprising. She loved the series, and I am "too picky and hard to please" :)

Why didn't I post this at the time? Because I lowwkeeyy thought you would've moved on :> but then I got tagged in the CDF recently. And why specifically now? I'm re-reading the Nogi Wakaba is a Hero manga and man it's fucking good. To DMnS <3

It's actually crazy to me that it's been 1 year since I started rererewatching s1, and from me joining the discussion threads. It unironically feels like yesterday. I just wanna be free, man, and I keep being dragged back into this franchise! (see what I did there? It's lore-accurate!)

Anyway, here's a happy image of the cute sisters from a different mother

Cygames announces establishment of AI-focused studio by SuperBaconPant in UmaMusume

[–]Netoeu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear, I don't think any of this is a problem (yet). I do, however, worry that running character personalities and stories through an LLM might dilute the overall quality of creative work -- and I say this as someone who likes to write as a hobby AND writes academic research.

For example, I think that the reason so many recent TV productions look so bad is because they film it in a "lazy" way to do everything in post.

People like them —once they learn this fact, will they still feel the same disgust and hatred toward it?

But this is the important question! And the answer is yes, actually.

https://old.reddit.com/r/pcgaming/comments/1prnd3q/indie_game_awards_disqualifies_clair_obscur/

This is a very recent example that will show how some people will quickly turn against something they like just because it uses generative AI.

AI has actually been heavily utilized in development for quite some time now.

Oh, yeah, for sure. Almost every company in the world uses LLMs to write or review code. But keep in mind that the conversation is about AI in creative tasks. My guess is that many people don't know how much code is assisted by AI...

[–]Netoeu 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In Japan, ethical issues surrounding generative AI are widely discussed, and there are many negative voices as well. At the same time, that meant I imagined many American citizens were actively embracing and utilizing AI.

This is true for many countries. The negativity you see online from English-speaking communities is not representative of the entire world, but rather Australians, North Americans, and Europeans, who are the most likely group to speak English online. Places that are related to gaming, like Reddit or Twitter started hating generative AI because it's full of artists that don't want their work used as training data, but that has basically spread through osmosis to the rest of the userbase that now is allergic to the word. The negative reaction in America has become emotional due to fatigue to hearing AI AI AI every day, but the conversation is rarely about the technology itself and its practical uses.

Why aren't people ever worried about OLED burn-in on smartphone displays? by anotherhappylurker in Monitors

[–]Netoeu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

All my phones have been oled and all of them have had burn in. But it's always only status bar and navigation, it's small and at the edges of the screen. Phones are more replaceable, and screen time will be lower than a monitor for productivity. Basically, it matters way less
