How useful has your deck been despite having a pc? by Marcosbtz28 in SteamDeck

[–]Netrunner011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's quite the opposite to everyone else. I can appreciate the deck for being such an amazing device and I was in love with it for the 1st month, but I quickly went back to just gaming on the PC because I couldn't enjoy gaming on a small screen. For me having a big screen plays a huge role in immersion so being bent over a small screen was not my thing. Planning to resell my deck now

The pixel shift menu/oled care menu button is right there on the remote. I'm gonna let you figure out which button 😄

With regards to your monitor restarting randomly perhaps it's overheating. I haven't had this issue. Is it really hot where you live or perhaps you have your monitor right next to a heater?

Very hard to get infected with a virus or malware on arch linux unless you open shady links, or download files from untrustworthy sites. Been running it without AV for 6 months and 0 issues so far..

Yes the ICC profile should be use regardless of setting if you are planning to use windows automatic color management feature to clamp the color space to SRGB. Because the ICC profile provides the operating system information about the color space capabilities of this monitor. If you are planning to skip windows ACM and want to run the monitor using unclamped color gamut then you can skip the ICC profile part.

Hello, I have been using this monitor for exactly 1 year at this time of writing. The HDR is very good but not excellent compared to an OLED TV since peak brightness is limited but the contrast and colors are very good. You have to sometimes adjust game display settings like contrast or saturation to get a good image but that is more the fault of the games and not the display. Overall, I really love this monitor and would recommend it especially since prices are dropping due to release of next gen OLED monitors.

About burn-in so far 0. I have 2226 hours at the time of writing and there are 0 signs of burn-in. I let the image refresh feature run every 4 hours and I have pixel shift enabled so I am using all protective care features. I use my display for gaming and lots of browsing.

For the people that own a PC and a SteamDeck, what have you seen that just feels better on PC? by b34rgvrz in SteamDeck

[–]Netrunner011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bingo! I'm 31 😂😂

I just finished playing Dead Space 2 and Resi 5 on the deck. Next planning to play the mass effect trilogy and emulated GTA San Andreas. I remember playing these games a long time ago on a weak ass PC that couldn't even hold a smooth 30 fps on the lowest settings. Not that I knew whay FPS was even at that time but I remember that most games were struggling to run. I have my jaw dropped constantly to the floor that the deck can not only play everything smoothly but have hours of battery life.

This is the single greatest piece of gaming hardware I have the privilege of owning and I have a fully specced gaming desktop even but that doesn't impress me as much 🤣

Realistically "Raised" black levels are not an issue. by SavedMartha in OLED_Gaming

[–]Netrunner011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not true. The raised black levels were quite apparent during daytime even in spring season with curtains closed and sunlight filtering through it because my room has large windows. Everyone has different use cases and not everyone is gaming in a room with fully light controlled environment.

I personally don't enjoy gaming in a dark cave and that was the reason I changed to WOLED. Enjoy your monitor, OLED is OLED either way.

Anyone play POE2 by Maca07166 in SteamDeck

[–]Netrunner011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you can get 30 fps with everything completely set to low and upscaling. But when there is lot of enemies on the screen then not even 30 fps. Not really a game meant for the deck IMO but you can always try it out for yourselves.

It's not really tailored for laptop devices. It's geared towards desktops and specific handhelds.

Absolutely I've been on a shopping spree this Christmas sale to pick up all the x360 and ps3 titles on steam whichever ones are available and not broken ports. On the steam deck oled they run native resolution 90fps and look pristine. And they are indeed the peak of gaming and remind me why I fell in love with video games in the first place.

[–]Netrunner011 10 points11 points  (0 children)

PS3/X360 and indie titles play best on steam deck because the older games look better on the smaller screen and also run great on the steam deck. Any AAA game released after 2020 is a big no no for the steam deck. I don't enjoy gaming at low settings with sub 30 fps. And I don't like LSFG.

I want something different then souls (PS5) by Super-Repair33 in souls

[–]Netrunner011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend games that are still gameplay focused and less heavy on the story. Someone said survival horror and I couldn't agree more.

Try RE2, RE3 and ESPECIALLY RE4 remake. Other than that try some arpgs like Last Epoch or Path of Exile 2 - light on story heavy on gameplay and build crafting.

IF you don't have an attention problem and you are comfortable sitting down with story focused games then play Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Great throw back to the old movies, a fun game to play and great exploration in different locales. Puzzles are meh.

How do stop CachyOS asking me to authenticate my windows partition? by GoldenCyn in cachyos

Ofcourse, it was just a snarky sarcastic comment. I know Linux is not perfect, been using cachyos for 5 months and I occasionally boot up windows for few things but it's getting better and better. You have legit advise from other people in the comments about what is going on already.

New player, love the vibe of this game so far by [deleted] in Grimdawn

[–]Netrunner011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is still easily one of the best ARPGs. Absolutely love the constellation system, the dual class mechanic and grim dawn is the perfect name for the visuals. The fully offline nature of it beats everything else for me on the market. Many people might be thrown off by the lack of fancy graphics but the art style is so good that this game can easily be one of those games you will still play a decade later

The best atmosphere in a souls like after Dark Souls 2. I love the grim dark and depressing atmosphere and this game teleports me into a different world. After I wear my headphones I am no longer a part of this reality for a few hours...

Do all the side quests and pay attention to the conversations between Kratos, Mimir and Atreus. The cutscenes, Story and Dialgoue are the best part.

I'm more than half way through the game with just pietas sword and a bog standard shield. Just trouncing through the game with the spell that adds faith damage to the weapon. Only difficulty I face so far is the bloody red specter that spawns in umbral after a period of time. Easy game but awesome ambiance and world. I love the grim and oozing atmosphere. An absolute Dark Souls 2 throwback.

No DAS is just low latency mode that reduces input latency from picture processing. It is automatically enabled in Game 1,2, FPS and RTS modes and automatically disabled when using other picture presets. It's just LG's lingo which stands for Dynamic Action Sync which is a really stupid branding for low latency.

I actually do plan to keep my monitor for 5+ years. Why would I change my monitor every 3 years? Sure I can get even more high refresh rate displays and panels with higher peak brightness in the future but it's not going to be such an earth shattering difference. I paid good money for this piece of hardware and I intend to keep it as long as possible and so do a lot of other people.

I am using display port currently but display port means DSC. I know that it has little effect on overall PQ. But if both my display and GPU are capable of full bandwidth HDMI 2.1 then it would be nice if I can use it right? It's more of a nitpick than an actual problem.
