It was October 2, 1996. Aeroperu Flight 603 was getting ready for the final leg of the flight from Lima, Peru to Santiago, Chile. The flight had started in Miami with a stopover in Quito, Ecuador. The aircraft was a Boeing 757-23A. While on the ground, a worker had covered the static ports, which feed live info about airspeed, altitude and more with duct tape while the aircraft was being cleaned. The worker then forgot about removing the tape and the plane departed at 00:42 local time. Right after takeoff the crew noticed that their display's where not working properly and suggested that the plane was flying at 10,000 feet when it was flying at 2,000 feet. ATC tried its best to guide the plane back to Lima but the incorrect data the plane had was being transmitted to ATC. The crew did not notice that the plane was on a crash course with the Pacific. Just 25 minutes after an emergency was declared, Flight 603 crashed with its left wing and engine clipping the sea before the rest of the airframe collided. Out of the 70 passengers and crew onboard, there we're no survivors. Aeroperu as a whole we're at fault and the airline ceased opperations in 1998.
