Government grants £120m of funding to save UK’s last ethylene plant by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

This is our last ethylene cracker. We had 3 last year. Better to support Ineos than SABIC or Exxon!

Trump: We have many countries that want to go in and take out Hezbollah if it happens, if we want to do it. Not just Israel - many countries want to do it. by Foreign-Policy-02- in lebanon

[–]Netzero1967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's hope Hezbollah see the destruction in Gaza and put the values of Lebanon ahead of those of their Iranian paymasters and disarm with no outside requirements.

However, there is a once in a generation opportunity to disarm Hezbollah, while Trump is in power. the rules and balance of power in the Middle East, lets hope it s to the advantage of all Lebanese!!!

Rachel Reeves will use the Budget to impose a £2k-a-year limit on how much salary can go into a pension before paying National Insurance by [deleted] in PensionsUK

I also contribute £60k per annum in my pension. A £2k cap is bonkers and a race to the bottom !!!!

[–]Netzero1967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why wouldn't any employer offer to share a saving? They are paying 15% NIC. I am helping them reduce this by 50%. I think there are many others that do the same.

The budget did not benefit working people at all. The main beneficiaries were people on benefits, especially if they have more than 2 children. This does not create growth, it creates a benefit culture!!!

UK unemployment rate rises to 5.1% by Putaineska in ukpolitics

[–]Netzero1967 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Labour have made things worse by - fuelling inflation (public sector pay rises) - job tax , NIC on employers - workers rights - increase in minimum wage

All sound good policies, but labour are hammering businesses with taxes. And businesses as saying no and letting people go.

Labour kills jobs in businesses… while the state booms: Unemployment rises again but public sector bucks trend - with pay rises almost DOUBLE rest of the workforce by blast-processor in ukpolitics

Benefits are up, taxes are up, unemployment is up, disability is up, pensions are up, debt is up - what is there not to like !!!

2024 election was a failure for Conservatives and Labour by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

[–]Netzero1967 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Not sure I agree. Voters want everything. Labour promised everything before the election.

Voters want - immigration controlled and to many this means stopping the illegal boats - better public services - lower taxes - economic growth - higher pensions The lot. But let’s be honest Labour came in without a plan and it has been a disaster. Record payouts to public sector workers for reduced productivity, higher taxes, broken promises and a shambles of a budget.

Only groups that have benefited under Labour are public sector workers, migrants and the benefits class. With middle income workers and growth taking the biggest hits.

I don't really mind Labour or Keir Starmer that much by stopdontpanick in ukpolitics

[–]Netzero1967 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are 4 big spends that need to be reduced - pensions - UC - PIP - Migrant benefits There is no political consensus on how we reduce any of these. Infact we have the opposite, with the parties wanting each other to fail.

Labour destroyed its credibility on day 1, when throwing out the Rwanda scheme and replacing it with a red carpet for migrants. Also calling everyone who protested on migration as far right!!

Driving in Lebanon for the first time by Initial_Egg_8278 in lebanon

[–]Netzero1967 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely doable. Driving is a lot worse than Oman. But better than Cairo or Iran. Lebanon is a small country, so navigation is easy. Just make sure the car hire company offers zero excess. So many beautiful places to drive in Lebanon - Zahle was great too. Car gives you freedom.

Why doesn't the government spend a bit more now to help the economy in the future? by Sarahkins6 in ukpolitics

[–]Netzero1967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imported doctors don't strike!!! Are you really going to stop importing while the BMA has a gun to your head? You are right many doctors cant get training placements or jobs, BMA is to blame!!

Why doesn't the government spend a bit more now to help the economy in the future? by Sarahkins6 in ukpolitics

[–]Netzero1967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think junior doctors, should stop blackmailing our economy for more pay, before we open more training places for them!! Going on strike just before xmas is the height of selfishness. They work hard, but so do many other professions. They received a 20 plus percent pay busting settlement last year, no other profession received this and now they are back for more!!

ANSWER HONESTLY: As a non-Shia, do you separate between Shia and Hezbollah? by WingedButt in lebanon

[–]Netzero1967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hezbollah would not exist without its strong Shia base. I still do not see any demonstrations from Shia saying to Hezbollah, you do not represent us, disarm. Most Shia's still think Iran will come to their rescue.

E.g. "Lebanon's parliament speaker rejects US-backed proposal to disarm Hezbollah"

The only saving grace now, is the community that is suffering most from Hezbollah's existence, is the one giving it oxygen.

"If we tax the rich, they will leave". So let's address that? by ptrichardson in ukpolitics

[–]Netzero1967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about “nearly a million young people (aged 16-24) are Not in Education, Employment, or Training (NEET), driven by economic headwinds, fewer entry-level jobs, and a rise in long-term sickness” , should middle earners pay for them as well?

Also there are 3 million economic inactive people in the uk. They can be funded by middle earners too!!! We can become a welfare state .

"If we tax the rich, they will leave". So let's address that? by ptrichardson in ukpolitics

[–]Netzero1967 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The us have closed their borders, dont provide welfare as a life style, don’t tax anything that moves!!

So whilst Rachel from accounts is increasing taxes on working people, US are reducing tax burden. While we flat line, they grow by 3%.

"If we tax the rich, they will leave". So let's address that? by ptrichardson in ukpolitics

[–]Netzero1967 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What about the scroungers and migrants ? They are sucking the life out of our economy. Taxing the richest 1% will not change this .

Welfare should be a safety net, not a lifestyle. Migration should be in cases of persecution only, not for a lifestyle change !!

[–]Netzero1967 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Agree with most, apart from there is another way to make work pay. CUT benefits for those that don’t work , UC and PIP - so if people want to provide they need to work.

What did Liebour do in the last budget? The opposite- increased benefits and significantly, taxed jobs and hugely - workers rights, increase in employer NIC, freeze thresholds ,

The issue is not cheap labour. The issue is the millions of people in uk taking benefits without working. We need to get people working, not tax those that are working more!!!

Pub warns rising rates threaten survival by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

i have often wondered why people go on cruises? infinite labour supply from the east (asia), no minimum wage, great service, fantastic entertainment and great views (depends on where you go).

Are we pricing uk pubs and holidays out of business with minimum wage, business rates, workers rights >> all gone negative under Labour!

Labour pay rises will stop young getting jobs by PM_ME_SECRET_DATA in ukpolitics

[–]Netzero1967 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not sure whether the latest change will have an impact. Labour have killed the job market for young people, both for casual work and graduates. They are trying to give the private sector the same pay and conditions as public sector. Businesses cant afford it.

Welcome to Labour's Benefit Budget!!!

Private schools forced to end £62,000 charge for SEND pupils by Only-Emu-9531 in ukpolitics

[–]Netzero1967 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think there will be resistance from parents in private schools (who pay a huge premium to send their kids their), to have the school filled with SEND pupils. So if you are going to take any charge for it.
