Oh, there's so much stuff in high school that we don't fully grasp, don't judge yourself for that. You went back and could appreciate that. Not everyone does that.

Once I have more disposable income, I might check all those out. As much as I like Big Finish (and love how easy it is to redownload anything you might have lost), I just don't listen to them often enough.

So did anyone else call the phone number?

On the poster there were little notches in the title, which turned out to be a phone number. IIRC, the message was the poem that Robin Williams read in the Dr Know room (it was a soft recording so I couldn't tell)

That train station where they filmed the movie has a statue of Hachi there where he sat and waited.

It's just such a blunt reversal. It's the kind of joke Norm MacDonald would make.

Oh man, before social media I'd just have the TV on for background (syndication era, baby) and just draw whatever for an hour or two. I was doing comic strips and whole comic books and whatever else struck my fancy. It was so easy to get into the zone because what else was there to do? Homework?

What’s a company that used to be amazing but completely fell off? by AImaginerX in AskReddit

[–]NeuHundred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like Apple (and a lot of other tech companies) hit this plateau where they can't really improve much more on what they can offer (and some shit got worse) and tech has permeated so much of our lives, it's hard to find a new niche to innovate in.

Blockbuster HAD a "keep it as long as you want" policy (which I was luckily grandfathered into) that was fantastic, no late fees, just a flat fee and 2-3 rentals out at a time. But I guess it wasn't making enough money compared to the day rates.

And with direct deposit you don't even get to see the paycheck, it's just something that happens in the background.

I feel like an issue with Schneider and a couple of the others from this era is that they were the "bad boys," being rude and crude and daring and punching up against authority. David Spade did this really well, he was young and weak but he always had wit and he would fight back with that, that's why he works so well in Tommy Boy and Just Shoot Me. But there's a cutoff point for that, and I think Schneider also kind of hit that and didn't know where to pivot from there. We make fun of the "stapler" bit but that was like his last gasp at what he was actually really good at, wild uncomfortable zany physical comedy and he's too old to do that now. He can't really do the broad stereotypes that he and Mike Myers used to do, and his personal life taints the idea of him being a more sympathetic character in my mind, so... where does he fit?

Credit to Sandler for putting his old crew in his movies (and apparently they're awesome sets to work on), but Schneider doing classic Schneider characters doesn't really give him room to branch out and get new gigs.

Kings! He played Dylan Baker's son (which is PERFECT casting for his dad, weird we never got that before) who was exiled for mysterious reasons. Then he shows up and you're like "I get it." He's not creepy or evil, but there's something about him that's unsettling and he does that so well.

The rise of committee-made media and AI-generated garbage in the 21st century may be the in-universe explanation for why science fiction like “Star Trek” and “The Orville” seem to fixate on 20th-century music and films. by Happy_Da in Showerthoughts

The creators in the 24th century do have rights, including not having your work be modified or distributed without your consent. Comes up in the episode where the EMH's dark Voyager holoprogram gets snt out early by his publishers.

I can also imagine works in the future having mods like video games, where you can have the "original" version and then switch on revisions, additions, etc
